Lebanon places second at state tournament
The Lebanon High bass fishing team took second place at the NHIAA state championship bass fishing tournament at Newfound Lake on Saturday. The team of James Barkley and Sam Lacasse weighed in an 8-fish limit for 26.57 lbs. to take second place. Sunapee bested the Raiders with a state-record weigh-in of 27.36 lbs.

Hanover freshman finishes seventh in state tournament
Key athletes: With a combination of power and touch, Hanover ninth-grader Caroline Warrington shot 87 on the par 71 Campbell’s Scottish Highlands course to finish seventh in the NHIAA state tournament. Teagan Nadeau of Oyster River led the field with an even par 71.

CROSS COUNTRY
Bears win Moonlight Madness
Hanover’s boys and girls cross country teams took first place in the Monadnock Moonlight Madness cross country race at the Cheshire Fairgrounds in East Swanzey, N.H., on Friday.
Megan Faris led the girls, winning the 5,000 meter race with 93 runners in a time of 17:43. Right behind her were the Bears’ Aria Deeb (2nd), Millie Larrick (3rd), Lila Muirhead (4th) and Lila Marchetti (5th). Also in the top 10 for Hanover were Alice Bell (8th) and Grace Stewart (9th).
Ben Groves (4th), Isaac McNaughton (5th), Alexander Collins (6th) and Dylan Faris (10th) paced the Hanover boys to a narrow first place finish over Keene among 16 teams. Hanover also had a 14th place from Oliver Collins and Ben Hourdequin was 15th of 128.
Hanover coach Eric Picconi said the boys had a fight on their hands against Keene but they prevailed on the strength of Groves, McNaughton and (Alexander) Collins with Faris and (Oliver) Collins also scoring.
“The boys did what was asked of them and we will need performances like that in the weeks ahead,” Picconi said.
Faris led from start to finish, set a course record for girls and the entire squad was dominant, winning by 84 points with 12 teams competing.
“They arrived ready to run hard and lead the field from the gun,” Picconi said. “They did some of the most confident and gutsy running I’ve seen in my tenure at HHS.”
Mascoma Valley’s Carl Russell finished 13th, teammate Karson Rogers 44th, and Byrce Palmer of Newport was 48th. For the girls, Isabella Currier, Mascoma was 66th and Chloe Coleman of Newport finished 79th.

Johnson 27th in Woods Trail run
Sylvia Johnson of Hartford had the best finish among Upper Valley runners at the 34th annual Woods Trail cross country race at Thetford Academy on Saturday.
Johnson finished 28th (21:33) in a field of 500 runners representing 71 schools from around New England. Lauren Parett of Glastonbury, Conn., won the girls 5,000 meter race in a time of 19:12. Champlain Valley finished first among 40 team scores.
Thetford Academy’s Ollie Emery had the best boys finish from the area, placing 93rd in a field of 714 runners from 69 schools. Ethan Fischer of Bishop Guertin was the race winner with a time of 16:37 and Pinkerton Academy was first among 53 team scores.
