Women’s soccer notches rare win at Harvard 

The Dartmouth College Big Green Women’s soccer team had a historic victory on Saturday when it went on the road and beat Harvard 1-0, something the program had not done in 20 years. 

The one conference win already matches the program’s total from last fall and gives Dartmouth a two-game winning streak in Ivy League play, dating back to a season-ending win over Brown last November. The defeat of the Bears snapped an 11-game Ivy League winless streak for the Big Green (4-2-2).

Kate Ryan scored what was the game-winning goal, which Stephanie Lathrop assisted.

Ola Goebel, making her second career start, collected two saves to earn the shutout. 

The team is next in action at Penn on Saturday.

Crowther earns Ivy League honors

Dartmouth senior running back, D.J. Crowther, was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for his stellar season-opening performance that included a trio of touchdowns along with 143 yards on the ground on 20 carries. He also had 32 yards receiving on three catches.

“I think first and foremost it starts with the O-line. I wouldn’t be able to do it without their blocks,” said Crowther after last weekend’s 27-20 win over the University of New Hampshire. “We rep every day in practice, a mentality of going 1-0 each and every day, and I just think it starts in practice, running hard, trusting the O-line, the receivers blocking.”

Sailing competes at Brown, hosts regatta

In one of the two regattas the Big Green participated in this past weekend, the Hoyt Trophy at Brown University, Dartmouth finished third overall. 

The other regatta, hosted by Dartmouth, was the Mrs. Hurst Trophy, which featured two Big Green teams competing, with one finishing fifth and the other finishing 13th.

Women’s cross country finishes as runner-up at home meet; men’s team comes in third

The Big Green hosted the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational on Saturday and the women finished in second place. 

Esme Daplyn (21:49.80) was the top finisher for the Big Green, finishing third overall. Other top finishes for Dartmouth were Katherine Strong (21:52.70) and Mia Compton-Engle (21:55.50). 

On the men’s side, the Big Green finished in third place. Ashton Bange (24:48.10) placed second and had the best Dartmouth time. 

Other top finishes were Max Miller (24:55.00) and Connor Foley (25:25.50), who both finished within the top-12.

Field hockey hits losing skid

After winning its first two game, the Big Green have dropped three games in a row.

The first loss came to UMass, 3-2. 

On Friday, the Big Green went on the road to Harvard and were blanked 7-0. Goaltenders Kylie McKinley and Ava Carlson notched notched six saves and nine save, respectively. 

Against the University of New Hampshire on Sunday, the streak was extended to three after Dartmouth fell to the Wildcats 3-2 in double overtime. Ally Brosie had a goal in the matchup, which Lucia Campano assisted. Campano had a goal herself during the game, which Ella Bowman assisted.  

Volleyball winless at Cherry and White Invitational 

Over the weekend, volleyball competed in the Cherry and White Invitational hosted by Temple University. 

On Friday, they lost to Quinnipiac 3-1, and suffered another 3-1 loss on Saturday against Presbyterian. They closed out the invitational with a loss to the host Owls on Sunday, 3-0.

Volleyball is now 2-7. 

Men’s soccer splits matches

Last Wednesday, the Big Green picked up a 3-2 victory at home against Northeastern. Olly Spicer put on an offensive masterclass for Dartmouth, notching a goal and assisting tallies from Will Lulka and Eidur Baldvinsson. 

Dartmouth was unable to keep momentum going into a road game against the University of New Hampshire on Saturday and fell 2-1. James Wilson scored the Big Green’s lone goal in the matchup, which Sam Fenton and Ben Bilden assisted. Men’s Soccer is now 1-2-3. 

Women’s rugby remains unbeaten 

The Big Green extended their winning streak to three to open their season on Saturday when they traveled to face Sacred Heart University and won 43-29. Olivia Lyman, Abygail Lambert, and Marley Larkin were among the members of the Big Green to score a try. Annie Henrich had multiple conversions.
