Bears sweep Souhegan Relays
SOUHEGAN, N.H. — The Hanover High boys and girls cross country teams appear more than ready to defend their NHIAA Division II championships with dominating wins at Saturday’s Souhegan Relays.
The girls team of Megan Faris, Alice Bell and Lila Muirhead and the boys relay team of Issac McNaughton, Oliver Collins and Miles Molina finished first with the second and third trios not far behind.
Hanover’s Alexander Collins, Will Hanaway and Ronan Novosad were second with third place captured by the Bears’ team of Ben Groves, Ben Hourdequin and Nathan Picconi- Eakin.
On the girls’ side, Millie Larrick, Grace Steward and Lila Marchetti were third and Aria Deeb, Mary Westrich and Ari Hirschler finished fourth.
Hanover coach Eric Picconi said the day was a good start to the season and the Bears will look to run with “consistency and confidence.”
“The varsity girls put their foot on the gas as soon as the starting pistol fired and never let up,” Picconi said. “Their depth was on full display. The boys arranged themselves differently and it made for a thrilling race as each leg ran faster and faster to grab the top three spots for the trios.”
