RANDOLPH — A 58-year-old man was charged with riding a lawnmower while intoxicated and resisting arrest on Route 66 in Randolph on Saturday morning, Vermont State Police said in a news release.
Police responded at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday to a 911 call of a “male driving a gas-powered John Deere riding lawn mower on Rogers Road and Route 66 in the town of Randolph,” the news release said.
When police arrived at the scene on Route 66 near the intersection with Rand Road, the male operator of the lawn mower ”displayed signs of alcohol impairment” and was administered field sobriety tests.
The man resisted arrest and police responded with “use of force.” They handcuffed him and a White River Valley Ambulance crew treated him for a “small laceration on his face.”
Police reported the weather was “heavy rain” and road conditions were “wet” at the time of the incident.
The man was released following medical aid and cited to appear in Orange County Superior Court in Chelsea at a future date, police said.
