POULTNEY, Vt. — Oxbow High football player Chase Lund turned in a performance to remember Saturday during the Olympians’ 34-20 defeat of Poultney.

The senior returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown, rushed for 100 yards and touchdowns of 30 and 10 yards and kicked four extra points. Senior Nikk Schwarz carried for 200 yards and touchdown runs of 60 and 25 yards in 19 carries. Freshman Jaxon Griffin intercepted two passes.

The Olympians took an early 7-0 lead on Lund’s first score but trailed, 13-7, at halftime.

“We really felt we outplayed them from the start but couldn’t capitalize,” said Oxbow coach Chad Wescott. “As we did a week ago, we came out on a mission in the second half.

“The kids showed toughness and growth as a veteran team,” added Wescott, whose 1-1 team visits Woodstock next week.

Windsor 50, Missisquoi 14

WINDSOR — The Yellowjackets received rushing touchdowns from Maison Fortin, Logan Worrall, Brody Osgood, Jonah Meadows and Corey Lockwood to tackle the Thunderbird at MacLeay-Royce Field.

Fortin threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Osgood and Olivia Macleay booted six extra points for the Jacks.

Windsor (2-0) is at Milton on Friday night.

Newport 42, Mascoma 0

NEWPORT — The Tigers scored all their points during the first half, with junior quarterback Kyle Ashley running for two touchdowns and throwing to Kayden Leclair for two more in a season-opening win over the Royals at Maryn Field.

Newport’s Tyler Gobin ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns, and Eric Wilkinson kicked seven extra points.

Newport (1-0) travels to Winnisquam on Saturday. Mascoma (0-1) hosts Somersworth on Saturday.

Cross countryHanover girls 1st, boys 3rd at Letarte Invitational

GORHAM, N.H. — Freshman Lea Perrard won the 3.1-mile race at Great Glen Trails, leading Hanover to a first-place finish at Saturday’s Paul Letarte Invitational meet.

Perrard’s time of 20 minutes, 8 seconds was five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in a 30-runner field from seven schools. Lila Muirhead was eighth (21:45), Maria Anderson ninth (21:53), Sarah Glueck 11th (22:13) and Matilda Munroe 13th (22:34) for the Bears.

The boys took third place as a team, led by a fourth-place finish from Mack Levy (17:39) among the 60 runners. Also scoring for Hanover were William Parker (15th, 18:17), Ryan Faris (19th 18:36), Alexander Valentino (24th, 18:43) and Safir Mehra (26th, 19:04).

Boys team scores (top three): Pinkerton 44, Keene 64, Hanover 79.

Girls team scores (top three): Hanover 42, Monadnock 71, Plymouth 90.

Field hockeyWoodstock 4, Otter Valley 0

BRANDON, Vt. — Woodstock scored after 90 seconds when Norah Harper teamed up with Hannah Gubbins and rolled from there.

Gubbins added her own goal with an assist from Claudia Shoemaker with 3:30 remaining in the first quarter. Lily Gubbins later had an unassisted goal, and Hannah Gubbins posted her second assist when Fleur Smeyers scored her first goal of the day.

Woodstock (2-0-0) plays at Rutland on Wednesday.

Hartford 7, Fair Haven 1

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes received two goals apiece from Alice Piper, Madi Barwood and Kam Bowers in a comprehensive Southern Vermont League win.

Madison Willey produced three assists for Hartford, and Charlotte Jasmin posted her first varsity goal.

Barwood and Piper had two assists each. Coach Heather Scudder touted Gabby Gardner for strong play in the middle of the field.

Hartford (3-0-0) host Lebanon on Tuesday.

Boys soccerConcord 2, Hanover 1 (OT)

CONCORD — Nick Reynolds scored on a free kick five minutes into overtime, lifting the Crimson Tide over the Bears (3-2-0).

Hanover’s Becket McCurdy opened the scoring during the 18th minute before Concord equalized during the 68th minute when a long throw bounced off a visitor and into the net.

“Hanover had three clear-cut chances to go ahead in the frantic final 10 minutes of regulation,” said Hanover coach Rob Grabill, whose team hosts defending NHIAA Division I champion Nashua South (4-0) on Tuesday.

Peoples 4, Thetford 1

MORRISTOWN, Vt. — Thetford’s Jake Gilman opened the scoring during the 19th minute before the hosts took over.

The Panthers (1-1) visit Lyndon on Tuesday.

Proctor 6, Sharon 0

PROCTOR, Vt. — The Phoenix surrenderd the game’s first two goals shortly before halftime en route to the loss.

Visiting goalkeeper Hayden Hewitt suffered an injury early in the second half and did not return.

Sharon (0-2-0) visits Mount St. Joseph on Tuesday.

Twin Valley 6, White River Valley 0

WHITINGHAM, Vt. — The Wildcats (1-1-0) were outshot, 17-5 but received 12 saves from Ty Couture.

“We learned some lessons today,” said WRV coach Alex Montano, whose team hosts Bellows Falls on Tuesday. “We were outplayed and outcoached.”

PLAISTOW, N.H. — Timberlane scored three times during the second half, including two long-range strikes.

MEREDITH, N.H. — The Mascoma team of sophomore Tanner Moulton and freshman John Vanasse placed third among 17 teams at Saturday’s event.

The pair caught eight fish with a total weight of 18.85 pounds. Keene was first with eight fish weighing 21.76 pounds, and Sunapee was second with eight fish at 19.08 pounds. 

Lebanon’s team of seniors Drew Sanchez and Griffin Urnezis were 14th with three fish for 6.67 pounds.
