NEW LONDON โ Town officials have named a new acting fire chief.
Effective June 1, Mike Matthy, of Newbury, N.H., is taking up the position from Brandon Adams, who will return to his role as shift captain after acting as fire chief since April, according to an announcement from the town.
Adams stepped into the position of acting fire chief following the retirement of Jay Lyon, who served in the role for 18 years, the Valley News reported earlier this year.

For the time being, Matthy, who has more than 34 years of experience in fire service and public safety, will maintain his roles as fire captain, fire prevention officer and EMT for the New London Fire Department, he said in a phone interview.
Before joining the department, Matthy served as fire inspector and district chief for the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, Matthy also spent more than 20 years with the St. Lucie County Fire District in Florida.
