HANOVER — The Dartmouth College men’s lacrosse team has already equaled its win total from its last two full seasons combined.
The Big Green (4-1) led wire to wire in Saturday’s 17-10 victory over St. John’s at Scully-Fahey Field for their fourth straight win, led by career days from freshman Colin McGill and fifth-year Matt Paul. Fifth-year George Prince also scored twice, reaching 100 points for his career.
McGill and Paul scored six goals apiece, helping stake Dartmouth to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. The lead remained at least six for the entirety of the second half.
The Big Green had a 32-18 edge in shots on goal and a 16-14 edge in face-off wins. They also scored on all four of their extra man opportunities.
Dartmouth will head to Ohio State on Tuesday, then open Ivy League play at Harvard on Saturday.
HANOVER — Buried by an early 5-1 deficit, the Big Green (2-3) couldn’t complete the comeback in a loss to the Minutewomen.
That was despite the best efforts of junior Lucy Murray, who scored five goals — four of which were unassisted. Freshman Gisele Todd made 13 saves. Dartmouth had a 15-10 edge in draw controls, but shots on goal favored UMass by a 26-16 margin.
The road does not get any easier for the Big Green, who travel to face No. 4 Northwestern on Monday night before resuming Ivy League play at Brown on Sunday.
AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Playing on eight consecutive days during a Spring Break trip, Dartmouth (4-8) lost its first four contests before picking up a 5-4 win over Bradley on Sunday.
The Big Green opened the trip with a 7-3 loss to Fairfield, then fell on Thursday and Saturday to Central Connecticut State. Those defeats were sandwiched around Friday’s 20-6 loss to the Braves.
In Sunday’s victory, Dartmouth scored all five runs in the first two innings and barely held on thanks to junior Jack Metzger’s three innings of scoreless relief. Junior Kolton Freeman’s two-run single in the first gave the Big Green the lead.
Another junior, Connor Bertsch, has been easily Dartmouth’s best hitter, with a .350 batting average and .700 slugging percentage to go along with four home runs through 12 games.
The Big Green wrap up the tournament with three games against Division III schools — Williams, Bowdoin and Hope. They then come home for the first time to open Ivy League play with a three-game series against Brown this weekend.
After a pair of shutout losses in a Thursday doubleheader at Georgia State, the Big Green (3-14) headed a short way east to Athens, where they were blown out by No. 16 Georgia, Mercer and Illinois before defeating the Bears, 5-0, on Sunday to snap a 12-game losing streak.
Senior left-hander Brooke Plonka threw a shutout in that victory, allowing four hits and striking out 13. Sophomore Izzy Kam and senior Billie McFayden each drove in two during a four-run fifth inning.
Dartmouth lost a Monday matinee, 11-1, at Jacksonville (Ala.) State. The Big Green will play a doubleheader at Georgia Tech on Tuesday, then open the home portion and the Ivy League portion of their schedule this weekend with a three-game set against Yale.
LA JOLLA, Calif. — The Big Green (7-3) shut out UC San Diego, 4-0, in the first match of their Spring Break trip to Southern California.
All three doubles matches were close, but Dartmouth took two of them to earn the opening point. Juniors Anders Gibbons and Dominik Pauli won, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles, and freshman Alex Knox-Jones and senior Pierce Widdecombe won by the same score at No. 2.
Straight-set wins in singles by freshman Carlos Guerrero Alvarez, sophomore Andy Ilie and Knox-Jones finished off the match.
The trip continues throughout the week, with the Big Green facing UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Loyola Marymount and DePaul in La Jolla and Los Angeles.
SAN DIEGO — Dartmouth (6-5) was shut out by San Diego on Saturday but returned the favor against UCSD on Sunday to get back above .500.
Against the Toreros, juniors Ashley Hess and Chidimma Okpara won their match at No. 2 doubles, but that was all the Big Green could muster. The following day, though, not much went wrong.
Dartmouth won the doubles point thanks to sophomore Katie Weber and freshman Elizabeth Fahrmeier’s victory at No. 1 and freshman Chloe Yoo and sophomore Lexi Dewire’s victory at No. 3. Freshman Ujvala Jupalli, Weber and junior Ashley Hess each won her singles match in straight sets.
The Big Green continue their trip with matches at San Diego State on Wednesday and Long Beach State on Thursday.
