LYNN, Mass. — The Hanover High girls hockey team battled hard against the No. 3 ranked team in Massachusetts, but ultimately fell to St. Mary’s, 4-2.
Hanover Coach John Dodds said his team adjusted well to St. Mary’s speed and quickly tied the game in the first period after giving up a goal at the 4:05 mark.
“From that point on we played with more confidence and made a game of it,” Dodds said. “This was a good learning experience for us and there were a lot of positives we’ll take from this game.”
Junior Maeve Lee had the first Hanover goal with an assist from freshman Rachel Rockmore. Junior Kali McDonnell also found the net for Hanover with assists from senior Kaye Lindsay and Lee.
Freshman Eleanor Edson had 24 saves in net for Hanover.
Hanover (9-2 league, 9-3-1 overall) is home to Souhegan on Monday.
LEBANON — In a game that was close throughout the Raiders fought back from early deficits to tie in regulation but came out on the short end in overtime.
The Raiders, (15-3) who played five games in seven days to end the season, finished as the No. 4 seed in the division and will play No. 13 Oyster River at home Tuesday in the first round of NHIAA Division II playoffs on Tuesday night.
Against ConVal, Lebanon was down six after the first quarter and at halftime but made up the difference after the break to end regulation at 50-50.
Senior Jackson Stone had 28 points, Braeden Falzarano had 20, and Cole Fabry 10 to lead the Raiders.
Lebanon dropped its last two regular season games after winning 15 straight.
BURLINGTON — Hartford had a strong showing at Sunday’s Vermont State Championships at the University of Vermont with several athletes qualifying for the New England Championships by placing sixth or better in an event.
For the girls, Bethany Davis was sixth in the 1000 meters (3:27.4) and Caroline Hamilton was third in the 55M hurdles (9.71) and third in the long jump (9.71 meters)
Macy Bettweiser, Alice Piper, Bella Boeri and Bethany Davis were fourth in the 4x400m relay (5:00.54) and Olivia Chase finished third in the weight throw with a personal record of 9.32 meters. (Weight throw is not a New England Championship event)
For the boys, Jordan Davis was second in the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters, and third in the triple jump with a leap of 11.57 meters.
Personal records were achieved by Bennett Moreno and Jack Stephens-Fournier in the 600 meters with times of 1:38.95 and 1:39.86 respectively. In the 4X400 meter relay, the team of Fournier-Stephens, Gavin Farnsworth, Logan White and Moreno were fifth (4:09.11) and in the 4×800 meter relay, Fournier-Stephens, Farnsworth, Ethan Michaels and Moreno finished fourth (10:26.86)
Both teams were seventh in the team totals.
