DORCHESTER — A 68-year-old Manchester man died of an apparent heart attack Sunday while mountain biking in the Green Woodlands recreational area.
The Canaan Fire Department received a call about a bicyclist in cardiac arrest around 11:20 a.m. Sunday and responded along with Canaan EMS and first responders from Enfield, Rumney, N.H., and officials with New Hampshire Fish and Game.
Because of the remote location, first responders weren’t able to reach the man until 12:12 p.m., according to a news release from the Canaan Fire Department. Members of the group the man had been bicycling with had been performing CPR for 50 minutes, but he was not able to be revived.
Canaan Fire Chief Bill Bellion said the location in Dorchester was about 4.5 miles off Route 118, and it was difficult for officials with ATVs and utility terrain vehicles to get there.
“It’s in an area where cell service is very sketchy. You turn around and lose the call,” Bellion said.
He said the bicyclist was from Manchester but referred a reporter to Fish and Game when asked for the name.
Bellion said Fish and Game officials were also dealing with another cardiac-related incident in Warren, N.H., at the same time.
