WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Dresden 10U and Central Vermont 12U baseball teams are headed to regionals after winning their respective Vermont Cal Ripken baseball championships on Sunday at Maxfield Sports Complex.

After opening play with a 5-2 win over Manchester on Saturday, Dresden rolled to its title with two wins on Sunday. The No. 2 seed took out No. 1 Central Vermont in the semifinals, 13-5, before doubling up the top  seed from the other bracket, Norwich, by a 10-5 score.

South Royalton-based Central Vermont was also the top seed in its half of the 12U bracket. A 12-2 winner over No. 4 Lake Region in Saturday’s quarterfinals, Central Vermont dismissed No. 3 Manchester in Sunday’s semifinals, 17-7, and outscored North Country, 16-11, in the final for its championship.

Dresden will head to the New England Cal Ripken regional tournament in Fall River, Mass., on July 16-24.

Central Vermont’s regional championship tourney will be staged in Berwick, Maine. The team has begun a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of raising $3,000 to defer expenses for the trip.

GOLFDeMars aces Woodstock CC par-4

WOODSTOCK — Eighteen-year-old Ellis DeMars simultaneously recorded his first hole-in-one and first double-leagle with one swing of his driver on Tuesday.

DeMars, a Cardigan Mountain School graduate from Norwich, used a new TaylorMade SimMax driver on Woodstock Country Club’s 272-yard, par-4 14th hole for his ace. The hole is a dogleg left, with a downhill drive to a landing area and green protected by a half-dozen bunkers.

DeMars’ father, Dan, witnessed the accomplishment. Ellis DeMars recently graduated from the Berkshire School in Massachusetts and is bound for the University of Colorado this fall.

ARCHERY3-D shoot scheduled

MORRISVILLE, Vt. — The Vermont Bowhunters Association is welcoming all interested bowhunters to a fundraising 3-D shoot at the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club in Morrisville on July 11.

The club is located at 1158 Garfield Road. Registration begins at 7 a.m., ends at noon and the course will be clear by 3 p.m. The event is open to everyone; association representatives will be on hand to discuss the future of archery and bowhunting. The club will be adhering to all current Vermont state guidance regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

The cost to attend will be $12 for singles, $24 for families and $10 for youths ages 13-16. Refreshments will be available as well.
