Upper Valley residents graduate from Project SEARCH at Dartmouth-Health
LEBANON — Six Upper Valley residents graduated from a year-long job training program at Dartmouth Health for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities this month.
Autumn Alexander, Claremont; Emily Neily, Lebanon; Bridget Livingston, Newport; Erik King, Corinth; Lily Gendron, Newbury, Vt.; and Courtney Brock, Tunbridge; were part of the program’s 15th graduating class, according to a news release from the Lebanon-based nonprofit organization.
Dartmouth established its branch of the international Project SEARCH program in 2011, according to its website. Since then, more than 50 students have graduated after completing internships at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, including in food and nutrition services, housekeeping, ophthalmology, gastroenterology and transportation.
“Across the year, participants work on employability and functional skills for approximately one and a half hours of their day,” according to a summary of Project SEARCH’s curriculum. “Training room activities are focused on: team building, workplace safety, technology, self-advocacy, financial literacy, health and wellness, and preparing for employment.”
