HUDSON, N.H. — Hanover boys tennis (5-2) won its third straight match, this time a 6-3 overtaking of Alvirne on the road.

HHS went 5-1 in singles matches. Junior Evan Yang (8-3), junior Kevin Pillsbury (8-5), sophomore Zhiwen Liu (8-2), senior Alex Stevens (8-3), and junior Charlie Birkmeyer (8-0) emerged victorious.

Hanover head coach Jarrod Shaheen spoke highly of Alvirne’s sportsmanship before praising his team’s performance.

“Evan had no trouble taking a win at the top of the ladder, and Kevin played a hard-fought match that was back and forth until he pulled away at the end. His hustle was incredible,” Hanover head coach Jarrod Shaheen said. “Zhiwen, Alex S., and Charlie rounded out very nice performances down the ladder to clinch the win. At doubles, Alex S. and Kevin played a phenomenal match against an athletic team to eke it out in the end.”

Hanover will hit the road again Monday to take on Manchester Central.

Mount Anthony 6, Hartford 1

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes’ (0-6) slide to begin the season continued with their second loss to Mount Anthony.

Hartford won a match for the second time this season as junior Ethan Michaels earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

“The Hurricanes played well and challenged their opponents throughout their individual matches,” head coach Kate Godek said of her team.

The Canes travel to Woodstock on Monday to make up a previously rained out match.

GIRLS TENNIS Hanover 9, Alvirne 0

HANOVER — Hanover (6-2) picked up its fourth straight win against the visiting Broncos.

This was Hanover’s third shutout win of the season. Two matches ended 8-0: singles victories for junior Eleanor van Aalst and sophomore Mackenzie Liu.

Sophomore Noura St. Hilaire won her singles match, 8-1. Sophomore Emilia Torresani emerged with an 8-2 win. Senior Lyric Wilson and junior Natalie Feyer each won their matches, 8-4.

HHS hosts Manchester Central for its next match.

Conant 9, Stevens 0

JAFFREY, N.H. — Stevens (0-4) fell to the Orioles for the second time this week.

In the first meeting on Tuesday, Stevens won just three games across the nine matches. This time, the Cardinals won five total games.

Stevens will look to improve Tuesday at home against Lebanon.

GIRLS LACROSSE Lebanon 14, Plymouth 3

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Lebanon (5-2) defeated Plymouth in a rematch of Monday’s 13-4 Raider win.

The Raiders earned their fifth straight win with their second-highest scoring output of the season.

Senior Molly Smith enjoyed a big game, with three goals and three assists. Senior Sydney Gonyea, junior Ella Longacre, and freshman Maddie Jewell each recorded two goals and two assists. Junior Kayla Taber scored two goals and assisted on one. Junior Cassidy Adams netted two goals, and freshman Sophie Longacre had one goal and one assist. In goal, senior Lena Nowell stifled 18 Plymouth shots.

Lebanon is back in action Monday at home against Laconia High.

BOYS LACROSSESpaulding 8, Hartford 7

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Hartford (4-3) dropped a close one Friday.

Junior Aiden Boonyaharn punched in a team-high three goals for Hartford. Sophomore Joe Barwood scored two and assisted two, while senior Carter Nalette and junior Memphis Johnston got one goal apiece. In goal, junior Tarin Prior recorded seven saves.

The Hurricanes hit the road Tuesday for their next game at Stowe.

Kimball Union 12, Brewster 3

MERIDEN — KUA (5-2) extended its winning streak to four.

The Wildcats did most of their damage in the first half, as they led, 9-0, at halftime. Charlie Baughman and Hill Carter led the way offensively for KUA. Andrew McCarthy won every faceoff except one, and Kobi Lees saved 10 shots.

KUA and Brewster will rematch Saturday afternoon.

SOFTBALL Kimball Union 17, Brewster 1 (5 innings)

WOLFEBORO, N.H. — KUA (4-3) rode a strong pitching performance to a lopsided win.

Sophomore Emma Lapsley was dominant on the mound, throwing a complete game one-hitter with six strikeouts.

Lapsley had a standout game at the plate as well, going 3 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs. Freshman Lulu Leppard went 4 for 4 with three doubles. Sophomore Misora Hashiramoto and juniors Shannon Moran, Audrey Donahue, and Lucie Turcotte all recorded multi-hit games for the Wildcats.

“Lapsley was dominant on the mound and our defense was sharp behind her,” KUA head coach Matt Underhill said. “When we dial it in like that, we’re a tough team to play.”

The two teams will face off again Saturday in Meriden.

TRACK AND FIELDThetford boys and girls both runners-up

WESTMINSTER, Vt. — Thetford’s boys and girls track and field teams each finished second at their meet against Mid Vermont Christian, West Rutland and Bellows Falls, which played host.

Thetford’s Madison Powers won the 200-meter in 31.2 seconds and the 400-meter in 1:08.3. She also won the high jump with a 4-2 leap. Madelyn Durkee won the 800-meter in 2:42.1, as well as the long jump with 14 ½.

Mid Vermont Christian’s Joel Roberts set a personal record in the 3000-meter with a 10:13.9 time, finishing second in the race.

Thetford’s next meet is Saturday at Windsor.
