WINDSOR — Kabray Rockwood’s run as Windsor High’s interim girls basketball coach got off to a roaring start on Tuesday night, as Elliot Rupp scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Yellowjackets to a 77-34 romp over Brattleboro in their first on-court action of the season.

Rupp, a junior who’d previously topped the 20-point mark just once in her varsity career, had 11 first-half points as the Jacks (1-0) ran away from the Colonels early. Windsor limited Brattleboro (1-1) to just two first-period points and received plenty of offensive support.

Captain Adi Prior scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half for Windsor, which owned a 41-11 cushion by halftime. Reese Perry and Peyton Richardson both contributed 11 points, and the Jacks hit 33 field goals — including six 3-pointers — on the night.

Rockwood stepped up from his previous junior varsity responsibilities when longtime varsity coach Bruce Mackay retired at the preseason’s outset.

The Jacks welcome Hartford on Friday night.

WESTMINSTER, Vt. — The Hurricanes (2-0) clamped down on defense, holding the Terriers (0-2) to just single field goals in the final three periods.

Jasmine Jenkins scored all eight of her points in a first-quarter salvo that saw Hartford holding a 17-4 advantage at the period buzzer. The defense did the rest, leaving BF with just five baskets on the night.

Sarah Howe had nine points to lead the Canes. Beth Dobrich contributed six. Hartford visits Windsor on Friday night.
