College was 15-20. Freshman pitcher and outfielderย Nate Clarkย (Quechee/Hartford) allowed two hits and four runs, all earned, during his only appearance on the mound, which lasted 1/3 of an inning. He got into 11 games and had three at-bats for the Wolves (15-20)โ€ฆ Plymouth State freshmanย Matt Hayesย (Hartford) started four of the eight games in which he appeared, producing a 1-0 record with a 6.51 ERA. He recorded 19 strikeouts and issued 14 walks during 27 2/3 innings for the Panthers (5-26)โ€ฆ Franklin Pierce (12-31) utilized the talents of freshmanย Cage Thompsonย (East Corinth). Thompson made 14 pitching appearances, starting twice, and had a 7.66 ERA. He struck out 16 foes and walked seven in 22 1/3 innings.

MENโ€™S CREW

Union (N.Y.) College junior Angus Hall (Lebanon) rowed in the second seat as part of both of the Garnet Chargersโ€™ varsity eight victories during the regular season. Union was third at the Liberty League championships in 6:38, its best placement during the event since 2018. The coxswain for those boats was sophomore Erika Canaveral (West Lebanon/Lebanon). Her triplet sister, Isabelle Canaveral, was a coxswain on two other Union menโ€™s boats during the springโ€ฆ Ean Ray (Grantham/Lebanon) a junior at Fairfield (Conn.) University, stroked for the Stagsโ€™ second and third varsity boats during six races. Included was a defeat of Iona and Lehigh in the latter craft with a time of 6:28โ€ฆ Massachusetts Institute of Technology junior Adam Gilbert-Diamond (Hanover) was part of the second varsity four B final victors at the Jefferson Dad Vail regatta in New Jersey during early May. That 7:13 finish placed the Beaversโ€™ boat seventh overallโ€ฆ Williams (Mass.) College sophomore Aidan Beyer (Lyme/Hanover) rowed in the fourth seat of the Ephsโ€™ second varsity boat during the New England championships. That craft finished fourth in 6:11.

WOMENโ€™S CREW

Union junior Elizabeth Canaveral (West Lebanon/Lebanon) served as coxswain for four different menโ€™s boats including the novice eight, which she guided to the New York state title. She also rowed herself for the womenโ€™s second varsity 8โ€ฆ Bates senior captain Merrill Doherty (Hanover/Kimball Union Academy) rowed in the second seat of the second varsity eight as the Bobcats finished second at the Division III championships. She was in the bow seat of the third varsity eight when it finished third at the National Invitational Rowing Championship. Rowing stoke in the first varsity boat was sophomore Virginia Adams (Hanover)โ€ฆ Rhode Island won its 12th Atlantic 10 Conference title and its third in a row. Junior Anna Kann (Lebanon) rowed in the second varsity boat, which set a conference record for that division in 6:39.50. The Rams finished 20th out of 22 teams at the NCAA Division I championshipsโ€ฆ Northeastern (Mass.) University junior Hannah Boone (Norwich/Hanover) toiled in the third and fourth seats of the first varsity eight for the Huskies, whose time of 6:20.14 during the C final of the Division I championships was a program-best for that event. Northeastern, making its 12th consecutive appearance at that competition, finished 18th overall. Senior teammate Madelyn Bridge (Strafford) rowed twice in the bow seat of the Huskiesโ€™ fourth varsity eightโ€ฆ Tufts junior Lyra Bornholdt-Collins (Hanover) rowed in the fifth varsity boat for a second consecutive year, helping the Jumbos claim their second consecutive New England Small College Athletic Association title. Tufts later won its third consecutive Division III title, but only the first and second varsity boats competed in that eventโ€ฆ Mya Veracka (Hanover), an Ithaca (N.Y.) College freshman, regularly rowed in the third varsity boat for the Bombers, who finished third at the Liberty League championshipsโ€ฆ Notre Dame was ninth at the 12-team Atlantic Coast Conference regatta. Senior Molly Hackett (Hanover) was part of the Irishโ€™s first varsity four boat that finished sixth out as many teamsโ€ฆ Mount Holyoke (Mass.) The Camels crossed in 7:59โ€ฆ Trinity (Conn.) College was fourth at the Division III championships. Sophomore Eva Joslin (KUA) rowed in the second varsity boat, which finished third in 6:37โ€ฆ Skidmore (N.Y.) College was second at the Liberty League regatta with sophomore Ava Holtoff (Hanover) in the first varsity boat, which finished second in 6:52โ€ฆ Michigan was 12th at the Division I championships with sophomore Talia Daft (Hanover) coxswaining the first varsity four. The Wolverines led by a couple of seats at mid-race before finishing second to Oregon State by 0.058 seconds in the C final, coming in 14th overallโ€ฆ Wesleyan junior Sophie Braver (Strafford/KUA) rowed in the second varsity eight as the Cardinals finished behind Trinity but ahead of Williams in 7:31 during the Little Three championship.

College as a midfielder and face-off man. He started one of the 18 games in which he played and scored twice for the Bombers (11-7)โ€ฆ Luke Nufer (KUA), a junior midfielder at Clark (1-14), started the one game he playedโ€ฆ Dean (Mass.) WOMENโ€™S LACROSSE

Middlebury (23-0) won its 12th Division III title and its fifth in a row and is 91-1 the past four seasons. Senior attackerย Caroline Adamsย (Norwich/Hanover) scored twice during the title-game defeat of Wesleyan and finished the season with 117 points (72 goals, 45 assists), the second-highest total in program history. Adams, the Division III player of the year, also led the team with 124 draw controls. Sophomore attackerย Maeve Leeย (Hanover) played in every game and started twice while producing 35 goals and two assists. Freshman defenderย Jaime Patton-Martinย (Norwich), the daughter of assistant coach and former Dartmouth College head coach Amy Patton, appeared in every contest and caused 23 turnovers and corralled 23 ground ballsโ€ฆ Juniorย Ella Perreaultย (Chelsea/White River Valley), a defender and midfielder for Bard (N.Y.) College, has started every game of her college career with the Raptors, who are 4-44 during that time. Also starting every contest was sophomore midfielderย Caitlin Sliderย (Thetford Center), who was fourth among the Cadets in scoring with 23 goals and 17 assists. Freshman attackerย Martha Crapserย (Brownsville/Hartford) appeared in 10 contests and scored onceโ€ฆ Husson senior midfielderย Gracie Gardnerย (Hartford) started every game and had 17 goals and 15 assists for the Eagles (11-5)โ€ฆ New England College (11-7) featured junior midfielderย Carmela Goodwinย (Lebanon), who started every game and produced 22 goals and 10 assists. She led the Pilgrims with 56 ground balls and 32 caused turnoversโ€ฆย Freshman midfielder/defenderย Audrey Ruppย (Windsor) started twice during the eight games she played for Worcester State, picking up eight ground balls and causing eight turnovers. She scored once for the Knights (14-6), who won the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference and played one Division III tournament game.

SOFTBALL

Lasell (Mass.) University was 12-21. Senior utility player Emma Tarleton (Woodstock) played every game, batting .277 and driving in 13 runs… Sophomore utility player Lulu Leppard (KUA) earned first team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference honors, batting .446 for Amherst (Mass.) College while starting all 31 games in which she played for the Mammoths (11-25). She had 27 RBIs and struck out four timesโ€ฆ Tanya Sanchez (Newport), a sophomore pitcher at the University of Bridgeport (Conn.), made 13 appearances in the circle and started twice. She was 0-2 and struck out 17 batters while walking 25. The righthander had a 6.84 ERA with the Purple Knights (33-20)โ€ฆ West Virginia State was 25-28. Freshman pitcher Anastase Bourgeois (Bradford/Oxbow) was 1-5 with a 5.53 ERA, striking out eight batters and walking 11 in 25 1/3 innings. She started five times and appeared in 10 gamesโ€ฆ Maineโ€™s University of New England was 19-22 with freshman shortstop and outfielder Rebecca Osgood (Corinth/Thetford Academy) starting four of the 22 games in which she played and batting .200. Classmate Paige Tremblay (Thetford/Thetford Academy), listed as a pitcher and third baseman, appeared in four gamesโ€ฆ Stella Kozak (KUA) was a freshman utility player at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (44-5), which lost in the NCAA regional finals. She started 34 of the 40 games in which she played, batting .312 with 16 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.

MENโ€™S TRACK

Plymouth State finished sixth out of eight teams at the Little East Conference championships. Junior Nicholas Lamontagne (Lebanon) ran a personal-best 53.7 seconds in the 400 meters, finishing 13th. Earlier in the season, he set another personal mark in the 100, crossing in 12.7 secondsโ€ฆ Union sophomore Aidan Bradley (Norwich/Hanover) was part of two relay teams at the Liberty League championships. The 4×100 quartet finished sixth in 44.5 and the 4×400 group crossed in 3:30. The Garnet Chargers were sixth out of eight teams overallโ€ฆ The University of North Carolina-Ashville was fifth out of eight teams at the Big South championships. Sophomore Bennett Moreno (West Hartford/Hartford) was seventh in the 800, crossing in 1:55โ€ฆ Georgetown (D.C.) University junior Birhanu Harriman (Lebanon) was second in the 5,000 at the Big East Conference championships, finishing in 13.38. The Hoyas were third out of nine teamsโ€ฆ Keene State junior Griffin Urnezis (Meridan/Lebanon) was third in the 3,000 at the New England Division III championships, turning in a time of 9:32. He won that event and the 5,000 at the Little East Conference championships, running 9:42 in the former and 15.22 in the latter. He also set personal bests earlier in the season in the 800 (1:59), the 1,500 (3:59) and the 3,000 (9:40)โ€ฆ University of Vermont junior Tommy Wolfe (Grantham/Lebanon) posted a pair of personal bests a week apart in early May. He finished 44th and ran 4:00 in the 1,500, a distance he rarely tackles, during a meet at Northeastern, then cranked out 30:33 to finish seventh in the 10,000 at the America East Conference championships. The Catamounts were last among nine teamsโ€ฆ Hamilton (N.Y.) College junior Zed McNaughton (Woodstock) set career marks in the 800 (2:03), the 1,500 (4:09) and the 5,000 (15:52). The Continentals were 10th at the 11-team NESCAC championships. Maineโ€™s Colby College was sixth at the same competition with sophomore Will Parker (Hanover) coming in 25th in the 5,000 (15:27)โ€ฆ Williams (Mass.) finished fifth at the NESCACs and sophomore Jordan Davis (Hartland/Hartford) was 10th out of 18 javelin throwers with a heave of 161 feetโ€ฆ U.S. Naval Academy freshman Kyle Ashley (Newport) posted personal bests in the javelin (199โ€™10โ€), the discus (139โ€™9โ€) and the hammer (105โ€™4โ€) this seasonโ€ฆ Colby-Sawyer was last at the five-team Great Northeast Athletic Conference championships. Sophomore Gabe Guillette (Hartford) set a personal best in the 200 (23.27) a week earlier, then finished 25th at the conference meet in 23.34. Senior teammate Ben Gilbert (Windsor) was fourth in the discus (136โ€™8โ€) and seventh in the shot put (45โ€™8โ€) at the same competitionโ€ฆ St. Anselm sophomore Peter Hogan (Newport) was second in the decathlon at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association championships. He won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 44โ€™ 7โ€โ€ฆ Rensselaer (N.Y.) Polytechnic Institute won its fourth consecutive Liberty League title. Senior Tobin Durham (Corinth/Thetford Academy) contributed a personal best in the 10,000 (30:48), which earned him a third-place finishโ€ฆ Husson College was third out of six teams at the North Atlantic Conference championships. Freshman Oden Schlager (Bradford/Oxbow) was 13th in the shot put (31โ€™0.5โ€) and javelin (130โ€™3โ€), the latter mark a personal best. Freshman Uly Junker (Thetford/Thetford Academy) won the long jump in 24โ€™3โ€ and was 19th at the Division III nationals in 22โ€™9โ€โ€ฆ Western New England was sixth out of eight teams at the Conference of New England championships. Senior John Bieszczad (Grantham/Lebanon) was 18th out of 25 runners in the 1,500 in 4:29. Freshman teammate Tanner Crane (Windsor) was eighth in the high jump (5โ€™9โ€) and 10th in the long jump (20โ€™9โ€). Sophomore Jonathan Eylander (Grantham/Lebanon) was eighth in the discus (116โ€™7โ€) and 13th in the shot put (39โ€™). Junior Ethan Jacobson (Hartland/Hartford) fouled out of the shot put at the conference meet, but set personal bests in the javelin (106โ€™4โ€) and the shot put (39โ€™5โ€) earlier in the season.

WOMENโ€™S TRACK

Southern Maine won its sixth consecutive Little East Conference championship. Senior captain Janiah Young (Perkinsville/Windsor) was fifth in both the 200 (26.07) and the 100 (12.51). Junior teammate Wynter Simack (South Royalton/White River Valley) was 14th in the javelin (92โ€™2โ€)โ€ฆ Connecticut College sophomore Maddy Thaxton (East Thetford/Thetford Academy) set a career mark in the hammer throw at 110โ€™11โ€, placing her 17th out of 30 competitors at the Trinity (Conn.) College Invitationalโ€ฆ Plymouth State junior Kylie Taylor (Orford/Rivendell) was ninth out of 24 athletes in the hammer throw (144โ€™2โ€) at the New England Division III championshipsโ€ฆ St. Lawrence senior Amelia Berthold (Hanover) was eighth in the heptathlon at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference championships. Her best event performance was fourth in the 800 (2:30). The Saints were 47th out of 50 teams. Another St. Lawrence performer, freshman Maya Dixon (Post Mills/Thetford Academy) set a personal best in the 400 hurdles (1:10), which placed her seventh at the Liberty League championships. The Saints were sixth at the eight-team competition, during which senior Kieran Black (South Strafford/Thetford Academy) finished 17th in the long jump (14โ€™11โ€)โ€ฆ VSU-Castleton junior Bethany Davis (White River Junction/Hartford) set a personal best in the 5,000 at 19:16.62 during the LEC championships, the Spartans finishing eighth out of nine teamsโ€ฆ Kayla Burnham (Hartland/Hartford), a Bates senior, set a career mark of 19:35 in the 5,000 this springโ€ฆ Bowdoin was fifth out of 10 teams at the Maine state championship meet. Freshman Izzy Cellini (Woodstock) was 11th in the 1,500 (5:21). Senior classmate Charlotte Tagupa (Hanover) ran 5:10 in the 1,500, a personal best. She set other career marks in the 5,000 (19:34) and the 10,000 (42:06) earlier in the seasonโ€ฆ Springfield (Mass.) College sophomore Jillian Barry (South Royalton/White River Valley) was 16th out of 23 long jumpers during her only meet of the spring, landing in 15โ€™3โ€โ€ฆ Southern Connecticut graduate student Ella Maclean (Hanover) won the 100 in 11.93 seconds at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association championships. Freshman Maddox Lovely (Newport) was 10th out of 11 athletes in the heptathlon. Her best event finish was fifth in the javelin (86โ€™10โ€)โ€ฆ Vermont was sixth at the same meet with freshman Ava Hayden (Lyme/Thetford Academy) as part of the Catamountsโ€™ ninth-place 4×800 team (9:39). She set personal bests in the 800 (2:19) and the 1,500 (4:46) earlier in the springโ€ฆ Colby-Sawyer freshman Anna Preece (Windsor) was 22nd out of 23 entrants in the long jump, leaping 12โ€™4โ€ while the Chargers finished third out of six teams at the Great Northeast Conference championships. College won the GNACs, with senior Reilly Slusser (White River Junction/Hartford) finishing fourth in the pole vault at 7.1โ€ฆ VSU-Johnson junior Kayli Stapelfeld (Canaan/Mascoma) was part of the Badgersโ€™ fourth-place finish out of six teams at the North Atlantic Conference championships. She was 14th out of as many runners in the 100 (17.28), her best time at that distance during four races this spring… Maine-Farmington was third at that same meet. Freshman Jenney Lutz (Lebanon) was second in the 100 (12.83), third in the 200 (27.09) and fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:16). Her 4×100 relay team (52.61) was second and she was ninth in the long jump (14โ€™11โ€) and 10th in the triple jump (31โ€™7โ€)โ€ฆ Framingham (Mass.) Stateโ€™s Reese Perry (Windsor) was 12th in the shot put (28โ€™3โ€) at the Massachusetts State Athletic College Conference championships. The Rams were fifth out of six teamsโ€ฆ University of New England senior Olivia Chase (Hartland/Hartford) was eighth in the hammer throw (157โ€™5โ€) as the Norโ€™easters finished 27th out of 38 teams at the New England Division III championshipsโ€ฆ Salve Regina (R.I.) University junior Isabella Hastings (Grantham/Lebanon) set a personal best in the 5,000 (18:05) during April, then finished ninth in that event at the NEWMAC meet in 18:29. The Seahawks were ninth out of 10 teamsโ€ฆ Vassar was third out of eight teams at the Liberty League championships. Freshman Skylar Spiro (Norwich/Hanover) was seventh in the 400 (59.6) and part of a third-place 4×400 group (4:04).

VSU-Lyndon freshman menโ€™s tennis player Parker Pierce (Woodstock) was 1-9 during singles play and 3-6 in doubles actionโ€ฆ Colby-Sawyer senior tennis player Ashton Meuse (Newport) earned first team doubles and second team singles All-Conference of New England honors. He was 14-7 in doubles and 7-13 in singles this spring, playing atop the order in the latter event. His twin brother, Payton Meuse (Newport), was 9-9 in singles and 10-4 in doubles. He was third team all conference in singles, playing mostly at the third and fourth slots, and second team in doubles. Colby-Sawyer was 13-11โ€ฆ Tufts (Mass.) University junior Courtland Doyle (Hanover) skippered six times and crewed twice for the Jumbosโ€™ sailing team. He was acting in the latter capacity when his boat finished first during an eight-team race at Connecticut College in March and skippered a craft to a second-place finish two weeks later in another eight-team competition, this time on Tuftsโ€™ home courseโ€ฆ Norwich rugby prop Sophia Taylor (Canaan/Mascoma) was selected to represent New England at the USA Rugby U23 all star tournament in Minnesota in late June. The sophomore has been a defensive stalwart for the Cadets, who finished third at the St. Bonaventure 7s tournament in early April.
