NORTH HAVERHILL — No new cases have yet been identified at the Grafton County Nursing Home after an asymptomatic employee tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.
The single positive test result of a staff member came through the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services’ surveillance testing program, nursing home administrator Craig Labore said in a Thursday email.
The test sample was taken Sept. 3 and the nursing home learned of the positive result on Sept. 7, Labore said.
Another round of testing on Sept. 10 of residents and staff who might have been affected found no additional cases.
More testing took place Thursday, and Labore said he expected results would be in by Monday.
Older adults with underlying medical conditions, such as those who live in nursing homes, are at greater risk of developing serious symptoms from COVID-19. Outbreaks in long-term care facilities have resulted in more than 80% of the state’s COVID-19 deaths, according to DHHS COVID-19 dashboard.
One resident of Grafton County Nursing Home died in late April after testing positive for COVID-19. One member of the staff also tested positive at that time.
