SHARON — Residents at Town Meeting will vote on a resolution calling on the state of Vermont to commit to 100% renewable energy for all new infrastructure and energy uses by 2030 and also whether to appropriate $5,950 for a regional energy coordinator.

They’ll also vote on a $1.66 million town operating budget, up 4.2%, and whether to raise $1.26 million in taxes, which would mark a 2.48% increase.

On the school side, the proposed $4.78 million budget would result in education spending of $17,184 per pupil in the 2020-21 school year, a 4.2% increase.

School Board Chairman Donald Shaw said the budget increase is driven by health-insurance costs and an uptick in secondary-school students who are tuitioned out.

Shaw’s term is up and he said he plans to run again.

The annual Sharon School District Meeting will be held on Monday, March 2, at 7 p.m. at Sharon Elementary School. Town Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at 9 a.m., at the school, with Australian ballot voting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day.
