LONG PRAIRIE, Minn. — Authorities say the son of a former NFL lineman wanted on murder charges in Minnesota for the shooting of his parents has been arrested in Mexico.
The Todd County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Dylan John Bennett was arrested at a hotel on Saturday in Cancun.
Authorities say Bennett had contacted County Sheriff Steve Och earlier in the day to say that he would turn himself in to the FBI. But authorities say the arrest by Mexican authorities came before the information could be communicated to them.
The bodies of 63-year-old Barry Bennett and his wife, Carol, were found on Wednesday when a friend went to their home in Long Prairie, Minn., for a welfare check.
Barry Bennett played 11 seasons with the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — New England Patriots tight end Lance Kendricks has been suspended without pay for the first game of the season for violating the NFL’s policy and program on substances of abuse.
Kendricks’ suspension leaves the Patriots further depleted at the position. Benjamin Watson will miss the first four games of the season for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancers and four-time All-Pro Rob Gronkowski retired after last season.
LOS ANGELES — The Memphis Grizzlies waived Dwight Howard ahead of the veteran center’s expected move to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Grizzlies announced the move on Saturday. They acquired Howard in a trade with Washington last month.
Howard still must clear waivers before he can sign with another team. The Associated Press and many media outlets reported on Friday that Howard plans to sign with the Lakers, with whom he spent one eventful season in 2012-13.
NEW YORK — Magda Linette won her first WTA title on Saturday, outlasting Camila Giorgi, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, in the final of the Bronx Open.
The 80th-ranked native of Poland had to win three qualifying matches just to reach the main draw of the first-year tournament. She then beat three top-10 seeds to reach the second WTA final of her career.
She rallied from a 2-0 hole in the final set and won the final four games, breaking Giorgi’s serve to win the match.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Code of Honor won a stretch duel with Tacitus and Mucho Gusto, holding off hard-luck Tacitus by three lengths in a stirring stretch run to win the $1.25 million Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday.
Trained by Shug McGaughey, who won his fourth Travers, and with jockey John Velazquez aboard, the chestnut son of Noble Mission covered the 1¼ miles in 2 minutes, 1.05 seconds and paid $10.80, $5.20 and $3.80 on a sunny day with temperatures in the mid-70s.
Tacitus paid $3.70 and $2.80, and Mucho Gusto returned $3.80.
Code of Honor was the second choice in the Travers at 4-1 after an impressive victory in the Dwyer at Belmont Park in his previous start in early July. Belmont Stakes runner-up Tacitus was the 5-2 morning line favorite.

Sprinter Coleman faces Sept. 4 anti-doping hearing

Sprinter Christian Coleman faces a Sept. 4 hearing at which he’ll try to avoid a doping suspension after allegations he failed to provide authorities with his whereabouts so he can be tested for performance enhancers.
Both Coleman and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released statements Saturday regarding the case.
USADA said Coleman could be subject to a violation for three failures to provide his whereabouts over a 12-month period. Coleman, the U.S. national champion at 100 meters, said “what has been widely reported concerning filing violations is simply not true,” and he expects to be cleared.
World championships start Sept. 28 in Qatar, and Coleman would bring the year’s fastest time (9.81 seconds) into the meet.
Athletes are required to give authorities their whereabouts information so they can be tested without notice outside of competition.
USADA said Coleman’s case has been put on a fast track, and the arbitration panel will rule by the end of the day on Sept. 5.
The agency said two of the three missed tests were directed by USADA testers, and the third was directed by the Athletics Integrity Unit, which handles anti-doping cases for track’s international federation (IAAF).
The 23-year-old Coleman finished second to Justin Gatlin — and a spot ahead of Usain Bolt — at the 2017 world championships. He posted the fastest 100 time in 2017, 2018 and this year.
“Sometime after the hearing, I will be free to answer questions about the matter,” Coleman said in his statement, “but for now I must reserve and respect the process.”

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (AP) — Christopher Bell pulled away from the field on a restart with two laps to go, then held on to win the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Road America on Saturday.
It was the sixth win of the season for Bell, who is expected to make the jump to the Cup Series next season.
Austin Cindric finished second at the 4.048-mile road course in central Wisconsin, followed by Tyler Reddick, Noah Gragson and Kaz Grala.
AJ Allmendinger appeared to be in good position to challenge Bell in the closing laps. But he fell behind on the restart, then went off course twice. He finished 24th.

HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) — Danny Smith threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, leading Villanova past Colgate 34-14 on Saturday in the first game of the 150th season of college football.
Justin Covington contributed 134 yards, his first game reaching 100 yards, and the defense set the tone with two early takeaways, including a touchdown for cornerback Jaquan Amos.
The Wildcats, picked to finish ninth in the CAA, piled up 444 yards against the Patriot League favorite Raiders, the two-time defending league championships who gave up just six points in their first seven games last season.
After a fumble late in the scoreless first quarter, Jalen Jackson turned a dump off from Smith into the first touchdown of the new season, covering 18 yards. Amos had a 27-yard interception return a minute later. Smith completed the 27-point quarter with a 45-yard pass to Changa Hodge and a 15-yarder to Andrew Perez, his first career reception. The Wildcats had a 271-99 advantage in total offense at the break.
Grant Breneman had a touchdown pass and a scoring run for Colgate, a top-20 FCS team in the preseason rankings, before Smith closed out the scoring on a 9-yard run.
