ENFIELD – Enfield police arrested a man on Wednesday for allegedly shooting an air gun from Shaker Boulevard toward a boat on Mascoma Lake.
At 4:12 p.m. Wednesday, police received a report of shots fired on the lakeside road.
“Officers responded immediately and quickly determined that this was an isolated incident,” an Enfield news release reported Thursday.
“We were able to determine that a high-powered air rifle was used and not a firearm,” Enfield Police Chief Luke Frye told the Valley News in a phone interview on Friday.
Frye declined to identify the alleged shooter, who was taken into custody on misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct and criminal threatening.
“We made contact with the calling party who was on the boat” and no injuries were reported, he added.
Frye declined to provide additional details on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He did, however, make a public service announcement.
“I would like to remind people that the lake is owned by the state of New Hampshire,” he said. “That means every corner of the lake is open to the public.”
