CLAREMONT — First-term city councilor Jeremy Zullo has resigned from the council effective immediately.

Zullo, elected to a two-year term in 2017, said in an email that his business commitments prevent him from devoting sufficient time on the council. “I’ve taken on another business endeavor and am unable to devote the time to the Council and taxpayers that this position deserves and requires,” wrote Zullo, owner of Zullo Property Maintenance.

Mayor Charlene Lovett read Zullo’s email at Wednesday’s council meeting.

According to the city charter, council vacancies are filled by a vote of a majority of the remaining members of the City Council. The appointment has to be made on or before the second regularly scheduled council meeting after the vacancy occurs.
