CLAREMONT — A city police officer en route to a house fire and several other people suffered injuries in a five-vehicle crash on Thursday at an area often referred to as Draper’s Corner, police officials said.
The officer, whose name has not been released, suffered minor injuries, Claremont Police Capt. Brent Wilmot said. The extent of the other people’s injuries wasn’t immediately known, he said, but some were transported via ambulance to Valley Regional Hospital.
The police officer was headed north on Route 11, or Charlestown Road, and straight through the intersection with Maple Avenue on his way to a fire call in north Claremont at the time of the crash. He had his cruiser’s lights activated, Wilmot said. It was unclear as of Thursday afternoon who was at fault in the crash.
New Hampshire State Police are conducting the investigation. Claremont police also are launching an internal investigation to make sure the officer followed all in-house protocols, Wilmot said.
The cruiser, which was slated to have a cruiser camera installed in it on Thursday, suffered “extensive” damage and will be out of the fleet for some time, he said.
