Staff report

Claremont — A fire Sunday afternoon on Davis Street caused heavy damage to a single family home but caused no injuries.

In a news release, Fire Chief Bryan Burr said when the first crews arrived just after 1:30 at 44 Davis St., there was “heavy fire” coming from the lower level of the raised ranch.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames and confine the fire to the bottom level of the house. There was smoke and heat damage upstairs and the home will need moderate repairs before it is habitable, Burr said.

The owners were home at the time.

Burr said a cause had not been determined but the fire is not suspicious in origin.
