CLAREMONT — SAU 6 has identified two finalists, including current Assistant Superintendent Cory LeClair, to become the next school superintendent in Claremont.

The other finalist is Michael Tempesta, the executive director of the Central Massachusetts Special Education Collaborative in Worcester, Mass., and a former school superintendent in Saugus, Mass. He also has worked as a principal at Milford High School and Ashland High School in suburban Boston.

LeClair has previously worked as a school improvement coordinator in Claremont and as a teacher and coordinator in Attica, N.Y.

The SAU Superintendent Search Committee has been meeting since Nov. 1 to find a replacement to former Superintendent Middleton McGoodwin.

LeClair is serving as acting superintendent during the absence of interim Superintendent Keith Pfeifer, who has been placed on paid administrative leave.

The two finalists are slated to spend the day of March 4 in the school district, with two “meet and greet” sessions open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Teal Room of the Sugar River Valley Regional Tech Center on South Street in Claremont.

The search committee is expected to make a final recommendation to the SAU 6 School Board before its meeting on March 7.
