CANTON, N.Y. — The Dartmouth College men’s hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with St. Lawrence on Saturday night to stay in the hunt for a top-four spot in the upcoming ECAC Hockey conference tournament.
Cameron Roth and Shane Sellar scored for the Big Green (8-7-3, 9-12-4). The last-place Saints (2-14-2, 4-24-2) forced overtime on a Ryan Garvey goal at the 4:12 mark of the third period. Dartmouth outshot St. Lawrence, 5-3, in the extra session.
Ted McGreen put SLU on the board at 6:05 of the first period. Roth tied the game with his first goal of the season about nine minutes later. Sellar gave the visitors their only lead at 8:13 of the middle stanza.
Dartmouth remains three points out a top-four ECAC slot, which would net a first-round tournament bye. Adrian Clark stopped 23 shots for the Big Green, which hosts Yale on Friday.
PRINCETON, N.J. — The Big Green lost a tight battle with the Tigers, falling to 11-12 overall, 2-5 in the Ivy League.
Brendan Barry had 26 points, including a 4-for-7 effort from 3-point land, to lead Dartmouth. James Foye added 17 points and Chris Knight had 12. Aaryn Rai finished with nine points and a team-best eight rebounds.
Richmond Aririguzoh led four double-digit scorers for Princeton with 18 points to go along with seven rebounds.
The Big Green led, 63-60, with 3:26 left to play following a pair of free throws by Barry but couldn’t hold onto that narrow lead. Dartmouth is back in action at Yale on Friday night.
HANOVER — As it has most of the season, the Big Green’s defense stood up tall for a scoreless ECAC Hockey draw with the Saints on Senior Day at Thompson Arena.
After senior Shannon Ropp made three stops in the first few minutes, senior Christine Honor took the crease and recorded 46 stops for her half of the shutout. The deadlock marked the first time in more than three years that St. Lawrence haven’t left Thompson with at least a point; combined with Friday’s upset of defending national champion Clarkson, Dartmouth earned its first three-point league weekend since 2011.
Caroline Shaunessy, Alyssa Baker, Tess Bracken and Kate Landers joined Ropp and Honor in playing their final home games for the Big Green (4-15-1, 5-20-2), which closes its season at Yale on Friday and Brown on Saturday.
BOSTON — Boston University jumped to a 6-0 lead and cruised to a victory in the Big Green’s season opener.
Dartmouth (0-1) had its own six-goal second stanza but still trailed, 12-6, at the break.
Ben Martin led the way with from two goals and four assists for the Big Green. George Prince netted one goal and two assists for three points. Matt Paul and Harland Smart both struck twice, and Trevor Ballantyne also scored for Dartmouth.
BU’s Chris Gray led all scorers with three goals and six assists. Daniel Hincks had 11 saves for Dartmouth, which visits Bryant on Saturday.
EVANSTON, Ill. — Dartmouth (0-1) kicked off its campaign with a loss to the seventh-ranked Wildcats on Friday night.
Five Dartmouth players scored multiple goals in the loss, led by three each from Campbell Brewer and Elizabeth Mastrio. Sophia Turchetta, Katie Bourque and Kellen D’Alleva all finished with two tallies apiece.
The Big Green visits Michigan on Sunday.
PHILADELPHIA — Top-seeded Dartmouth dropped a 4-3 decision to fifth-seeded Penn on the opening day of the ECAC Indoor Championships.
Dan Martin’s 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Kevin Zhu at No. 3 singles gave the Big Green a 2-0 advantage, but Quaker wins at the No. 2, 1 and 6 put the home team up, 3-2. Freshman Sid Chari took down Noah Makarome, 6-7, 7-6, 6-0, at No. 5 to tie things up, but Dimitry Shatalin won at No. 4, beating Dartmouth’s Peter Conklin, 7-5, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (7), to claim the match.
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Host Middlebury broke an 11-year choke hold Dartmouth and Vermont held on EISA carnival racing by taking its own festival on Saturday.
The Panthers edged out the Big Green by seven points, traking the men’s giant slalom today while Dartmouth took the women’s 5K freestyle and the Catamounts claimed the other two events. That gave the Panthers just enough points to leapfrog over the Big Green in the standings by a 915-908 margin. Vermont finished in third place with a total of 875 points.
The Big Green put four athletes on podiums. Sophomore Katharine Ogden was second the women’s 5K freestyle at the Rikert Nordic Center (12 minutes, 56.3 seconds), followed by teammate Lydia Blanchet (13:10.2). Drew Duffy was third in the men’s giant slalom at the Middlebury Snow Bowl and Stehpanie Currie claimed second in the women’s GS.
Skiing continues on Sunday when the Big Green hosts the conditions-delayed Dartmouth Carnival GS at the Dartmouth Skiway.
