WINDSOR — Bombs away!
Fair Haven dropped in 10 3-point baskets on Friday night in a 62-49 win over Windsor.
It was a battle of teams with matching records, but on this night the Slaters (9-5) not only had the long balls dropping in, but showed poise on defense and were dominant on the boards.
“No doubt this was one of our better efforts,” said veteran Fair Haven coach Bob Prenevost. “We were unselfish with the ball and ganged up one the boards. It was good night.”
Windsor (8-6), meanwhile, try as it might, couldn’t get a run together until it was near the end of the fourth quarter.
“And then it was too late,” said Windsor coach Harry Ladue.
Fair Haven came into the game in a bit of a rut, having lost three of their last four, but looked in peak form on Friday night right from the start, when the Slaters hit four of seven from 3-point land to open then game with an 18-10 lead. And on they rolled with a couple of more 3s in the second period to make it 32-18 at the half.
Windsor, which had won its last three and six of its last seven, tried to change up the defense, but nothing was stopping the Slaters on this night as the long shots kept dropping and the lead got to 48-32 after three quarters.

In the beginning it backfired a little, as Windsor started the period with a 10-2 run and it was a 10-point game (52-42) with 4:45 to play. Fair Haven took a timeout, but did change tactics as its stayed with the delay game and held the Yellowjackets in check the rest of the game.
