NEWPORT, N.H. — A 57-year-old Claremont man is being held on charges that he sexually assaulted a girl who was known to him.

Bruce Young appeared on Friday in Sullivan Superior Court in Newport and pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

He has a bail hearing scheduled for Monday in the Newport courthouse.

Authorities became aware of the alleged assault on Jan. 27, when the juvenile reported to her school counselor that she had been sexually abused, according to a Claremont police news release issued on Friday.

The Claremont School District contacted the Division for Children, Youth and Families and the police department.

Following an investigation, police arrested Young on Thursday.

He faces four charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault.

Further charges are anticipated, the release said.
