SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The Springfield Police Department has had a change at the helm, but the town has released few details about why.
Douglas Johnston is no longer the town’s police chief, said Springfield police Lt. Mark Fountain, who was appointed “acting chief” around 10 a.m. on Monday by Town Manager Tom Yennerell.
“I can confirm that I have been appointed as the acting chief at this time,” Fountain said on Monday.
He deferred all specifics about the change to the town manager.
Reached via email on Tuesday, Yennerell said Johnston isn’t working for the town.
“Doug Johnston is no longer on the Springfield payroll,” he said, declining to comment on specifics. “This is a very sensitive human resource matter and I’m not at liberty to discuss it.”
Attempts to reach Johnston this week were unsuccessful.
