The gifts and pledges — which were 33 percent higher than the previous Dartmouth record of $318.8 million set in 2016 — come as the college publicly launched its $3 billion “Call to Lead” capital campaign this spring after three years of what’s known as a “quiet” phase of lining up support.
Dartmouth said more than 81,000 donors had pledged or given a total of $1.74 billion toward the capital campaign as of June. Among the fundraising totals were $170.8 million in bequest pledges.
Dartmouth said 41 percent of alumni gave to the Dartmouth College Fund, up from 39.5 percent in 2017.
As part of the capital campaign, Dartmouth is hoping to garner 100 gifts of at least $1 million from alumnae or widows of Dartmouth graduates. As of the end of FY 2018, 60 women had made such commitments, the college said.
