Evelyn P. Young

Dorchester, N.H. — Evelyn P. Young, 65, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. She was born in Concord, N.H. to Richard W. & Priscilla (Ordway) Watkins. She grew up in Canaan and graduated from Mascoma High School, class of 1970. She married Ira Young on Nov. 21, 1971. During her husband’s enlisted time with the Military she traveled with him to all his station points including Germany where she was a Girl Scout Leader for a period of time. Following Ira’s discharge, they settled in Dorchester. Evelyn had worked for the family business for 29 years, the Canaan Cash Market. She was passionate about her photography and enjoyed writing poetry and cooking.

She is survived by her husband Ira Young of Dorchester; a daughter, Candida Young-Burnham and her husband, Ray of Canaan; and a son, Anthony J. Young and his wife, Maki of Okinawa, Japan; four grandchildren, Christian A. Young-Burnham, Natsumi C. Young, James T. Young and Ayana E. Young; and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Richard W. Watkins, her stepfather, Thomas E. Neily Sr., her mother, Priscilla E. Neily and her brother, Richard W. Watkins Jr.

Family and friends are invited to Evelyn’s graveside service at the Canaan Street Cemetery on Friday Sept. 14 at 10 a.m.

In keeping with Evelyn’s loving spirt of animals; donations can be made to the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Route Ten, Enfield, NH 03748 in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are by the Ricker Funeral Home & Crematory of Lebanon-Enfield.
