CLAREMONT — State police are investigating an incident involving the mayor of Claremont, his wife and at least one other person.

Claremont police received a report of an incident involving Claremont Mayor Dale Girard, who is also a New Hampshire state representative, and his wife, Allyn Girard. The couple owns and operates Golden Cross Ambulance service, based in Claremont.

While details of what happened are not publicly available, Chief Brent Wilmot said the situation occurred on the evening of Oct. 7 around 6 p.m. He confirmed that both Dale and Allyn Girard were involved.

Other people were named in the investigation, but Claremont police declined to identify them or specify their relationship to the incident.

Claremont police passed the case along to state police because of the conflict of interest, and Wilmot declined to provide further details to avoid interfering with the ongoing investigation, he said.

When the Valley News contacted New Hampshire State Police to ask if they are currently investigating an incident involving the Girards, public information officer Michal Sventek wrote that his colleagues confirmed they are “indeed the lead investigator now.”

Sventek did not respond to an inquiry regarding the nature of the situation and if anyone has been charged as a result.

Dale and Allyn Girard did not respond to attempts to reach them by phone and email Thursday morning.

The Valley News will follow up as more information becomes available.
