Plainfield, Vt.
Playing out of the defense, Kendyl Boisvert scored her second goal in as many matches to get the Raptors started toward a 5-1 win over Twinfield on Thursday in a Central Vermont League contest.
Boisvert also scored in Rivendell’s 7-1 loss at Thetford earlier in the week, but a different foe and a lack of season-opening jitters helped the visitors’ cause.
“The kids were more confident and played well and worked hard together,” Goodwin said. “They were much more effective as a team. … The Twinfield kids gave us a different kind of game; we were mostly down in their end, and they were very aggressive. We needed to learn to move quicker to stay away from having too many defenders on us at once.”
Mikayla Stever scored twice and set up a goal for Rivendell. Sienna Carter and Emily Hebb joined Boisvert in the goal-scoring department.
“She’s gotten our first goal in the first two games of the year, both from center back,” Goodwin said of the Hartford High transfer. “She’s mentally and physically showing up and doing a great job for us. She’s putting it all out there. I’m proud of her.”
Thessalie Butler had two assists and Liz Noyes contributed one for Rivendell (1-1-0). Shauna Simmons and Boisvert combined on one save.
The Raptors head to Sharon on Monday.

Hartford (2-0-0) had to come from behind in this one. Nick Mattias put the Vikings in front just a minute into the contest, but the Canes rallied behind a 15th-minute goal from Nick Jones and a strike from Hunter Noyes nine minutes later.
Jones and Nick Martin recorded assists in the match, and Shane Miller backed it up with four-save goalkeeping. Sage Gosselin kept LI in the contest with 12 stops.
“We’ve got a fairly young team, and they learned a vital lesson today,” Hartford coach Kevin Guilbault said. “When you warm up and you’re not focused and not ready to go when you step on the field, it can cost you. We weren’t ready to go, but they were able to step up.”
Hartford opens its Maxfield Sports Complex home schedule on Saturday against Mount Anthony.
Rivendell 2, Twinfield 0
Plainfield, Vt.
Johnny Vogelien got the visitors started by converting a Charlie Bradley pass just nine minutes into the contest. A.J. DeBois doubled Rivendell’s lead in the 35th, sending home a feed from Luke Senn. Zach Dexter posted a four-save shutout.
“We substituted more often than we normally do,” said 47th-year Rivendell head coach Bob Thatcher, whose squad had dropped a 2-1 decision at Thetford just 24 hours earlier.
“The kids would come off, hydrate and let us know when they were ready to get back in.”
The Raptors travel to Sharon on Tuesday.

New Mid Vermont Christian coach Tom Schutzius singled out Sydney Goodwin’s defensive play. Goodwin finished with a team-high eight digs.
“I’m really proud of the team effort and the way they competed against a very good team from a much larger school,” he said. “The girls competed and never gave up. They took a lot of pride in taking that set.”
MVCS visits Randolph on Monday.
