Wen was an A.I.A. Registered Architect for Kent, Cruise & Associates in Providence, R.I. and Boston, Mass. for many years before starting his own business, R. Wendell Phillips & Associates. He continued his career after he and Elizabeth moved to New London in 1993 and only retired from Architecture last year at age 90. Wen & Elizabeth helped establish Caring Animal Partners and he served as Treasurer for many years. He was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and a dedicated volunteer with the New London Historical Society with the men’s “Tuesday Group”. Wen and Elizabeth were married in 1955, sharing 63 years of marriage. He was predeceased by a son, Roscoe Wendell Phillips, III in 1998.
Members of his family include his wife, Elizabeth (Moss) Phillips of New London; three children and their spouses, James Moss Phillips and his wife Barbara, Eleanor Phillips Cyr and Margaret Phillips Goeller and her husband John; five grandchildren, Madeline Phillips, Elizabeth (Cyr) Grim and her husband Matthew, Randall Cyr, Jessica Goeller and Peter Goeller.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in New London at a later date to be announced.
