The Upper Valley will honor veterans over the next few days with a variety of parades, ceremonies, exhibits and other events. All are free and open to the public.

Memorial Day Ceremony in Canaan

1 p.m.

Canaan Elementary School gymnasium, 31 School St.

American Legion Memorial Day Parade in Woodstock

10:30 a.m.-noon.

Various locations in town.

Parade starts at the Woodstock Elementary School on School Street and proceeds through town, making several ceremonial stops, before ending on South Street. 802-457-9400.

Memorial Day Parade and Observance in Norwich

Noon.

Monday

Memorial Day Parade in Canaan

9 a.m.

Canaan Elementary School, 31 School St.

A parade starts at Canaan Elementary School and proceeds west on School Street, then turns east on Route 4 and continues to the monument on the Village Common. The Weld Webster Post No. 55 of the American Legion will present a color guard and a rifle salute on the common as part of a ceremony honoring the service of veterans. The Mascoma Valley Regional School District Band, the Canaan fire department, police department and Canaan Ambulance also will participate. 603-523-4501.

Memorial Day in Tunbridge

9 a.m.

Tunbridge Memorial Day events include a Tunbridge Public Library book and plant sale and a bake sale and nonprofit fair on the Parish House lawn from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A memorial service takes place at Town Hall at 11 a.m., followed by a parade and ceremony. The fire department hosts a chicken barbecue (by reservation at 802-889-3274 or 802-889-5518) and the Rec Committee will offer ice cream, a bounce house and dunk tank at the Tunbridge fairgrounds. Memorial Day Observance in Claremont

10 a.m.

Claremont Middle School, 107 South St.

Hosted by American Legion Post No. 29, a parade begins at the Claremont Middle School, proceeds down South Street to Pleasant Street, stopping briefly at the west Pleasant Street Cemetery to honor the Unknowns, then continues up Pleasant Street before returning to Broad Street Park for an observance and volley to honor fallen veterans. After the ceremonies, there will be a luncheon at the American Legion Hall, 119 Broad St., for veterans and their families. 603-542-9222.

Memorial Day Parade and Museum Exhibit in Enfield

10 a.m.

Enfield Police Station, 19 Main St.

The parade route will be from the Enfield police station to Route 4, Oak Grove Street and back onto Main Street, ending at the police station. The color guard will be led by the American Legion Post No. 55, accompanied by the Mascoma Valley Regional High School Band.

The parade includes a short ceremony and laying of a wreath at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, a ceremony to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and a ceremony to commemorate veterans who served at sea.

Area veterans are invited to join the parade. Uniforms are encouraged but not necessary. Report to the police station at 10 a.m.

A special military museum exhibit will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Enfield Community Building at 308 Route 4, including original documents, ephemera, uniforms and original artifacts from the American Revolution, Civil War, World War I and World War II, Korean War, Vietnam war, the Cold War and the War on Terror. 603-632-7501.

Memorial Day Exercises in Windsor

This year marks the 135th anniversary of Windsor’s Memorial Day exercises. Readings, speeches and music will be followed by a procession and laying of wreaths. In the case of bad weather, activities will move into Windsor High School’s Lois F. White Auditorium. 802-269-0035.

Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies in Lebanon

The American Legion Guyer-Carignan Lebanon Post No. 22 conducts the city of Lebanon’s annual Memorial Day parade and ceremonies. The parade starts at 11 a.m. on Eldridge Street near the former Sacred Heart School and proceeds along Hanover Street (Route 120), pausing at the Hanover Street Bridge for a service, then completely around Colburn Park, then along Church Street, into the School Street Cemetery, pauses briefly for a service, exits the cemetery onto School Street, proceeds down School Street and enters Colburn Park for a Memorial Day observance. Memorial Day Ceremony in Newport

11 a.m.

Newport town common, North Main Street.

Ceremony includes addresses by Elizabeth Hennig and new American Legion Post No. 25 commander Bruce Richardson, the firing of the Post 25 cannon, the firing party and taps. The Veterans Club will meet at 7:30 a.m. to decorate graves at the town’s cemeteries. 603-863-3945.

Memorial Day in Piermont

11 a.m.

The parade begins on Church Street at the Congregational Church and goes through town. Then, it goes south on Route 10 to the South Lawn Cemetery and the Veterans Memorial Garden, where there will be a ceremony for an unveiling of a war monument honoring veterans of the Korean War, Vietnam War and the War on Terrorism. The ceremony will be followed by a gathering at Piermont Village School in the Old Church Building, where Bernie Marvin will give a presentation that includes photographs he took while a Marine combat photographer in 1957 in the Middle East. Seventh and eighth grades will host a luncheon at noon to raise funds for their class trip to D.C. The Piermont Library also will be hosting a book sale from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the fire station. 603-272-4933.

Memorial Day Ceremony in Perkinsville

Memorial Day Muster in Hanover Center

Program includes a reading of the Gettysburg Address by the Boy and Girl Scouts, a speech by Jay Barrett on the New England tradition of mustering, traditional patriotic music by the Lyme Town Band and the placing of American flags on graves at the adjacent cemetery. Memorial Day Ceremony in White River Junction

Noon.

VA Medical Center, 163 Veterans Ave.

A ceremony takes place under the flag on the Veterans Memorial Brick Walkway, with music by the Lyme Town Band. Acting Medical Center Director Brett Rusch will open the ceremony, and the keynote speaker will be Col. Nathan Lord, commander of the 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain). All are invited to pay their respects to fallen heroes.

Prior to the ceremony, a group will lay a wreath at Maple Street Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., then place wreaths at town hall, Veterans Memorial Park and finish by tossing a wreath off the Bridge Street bridge at 11 a.m. 802-295-9363 x5880 and 603-369-0329.
