Springfield, n.h.
The pellet drum has a built-in suppression system, which kicked on and extinguished the 4:30 p.m. fire, said Springfield Fire Chief Peter Lacaillade.
No one was injured, and there was no significant damage, Lacaillade said.
“(The fire) was all contained to the pellet drum,” Lacaillade said.
The equipment is used in the process of making wood heating pellets, the chief said.
Durgin and Crowell manufactures kiln-dried eastern white pine lumber, according to its website. Because of the type of work Durgin and Crowell does, he said, it is not uncommon for fires to break out at the plant, which is located off Interstate 89.
Monday’s fire was the second at the major Upper Valley lumber mill in three months. In January, a massive four-alarm fire destroyed Durgin and Crowell’s planer mill. The company also had a fire in February 2016, which was quickly extinguished.
A message left for the owners on Tuesday was not returned.
Fire crews from Grantham and New London also responded, the chief said.
