JAFFREY, N.H. โ A 20-year-old man died while hiking Mount Monadnock on Saturday, law enforcement announced.
Joshua Luth, of Lancaster, Mass., suffered a medical event while traversing the Cascade Link Trail, according to a Sunday news release from N.H. Fish and Game.
Luth was pronounced dead at the scene, Fish and Game Lt. William Boudreau told The Keene Sentinel on Sunday. The Massachusetts resident had been hiking alone but was well prepared.
At approximately 4:10 p.m., N.H. Monadnock State Park rangers notified N.H. Fish and Game of a hiker undergoing a medical incident roughly 0.75 miles from the Monadnock State Park Headquarters on Poole Road, the release said.
Other hikers came across Luth, called 911 and began CPR โas his condition deteriorated,โ the release said. Conservation officers responded and requested assistance from local fire departments.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the incidentโs cause, according to the release. Several local emergency response departments responded, including the Jaffrey Fire Department, Rindge Fire Department, Peterborough Fire Department and Keene Fire Department.
