Etna, N.H. — Susan E. Presberg-Greene. Beloved wife, mother, sister, healer, and friend. Our beautiful Susan passed away, surrounded by loved ones, Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, in Etna. She was born April 9, 1956, in Rochester, N.Y., to Dr. Jack Presberg and Sonya (Balkin) Presberg. As a child she developed a life-long love of music. Susan graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory in 1978, where she studied biology and cello. She did agricultural research for two years in Chiang Mai, Thailand, as an Oberlin Shansi Fellow, a transformative experience. Susan completed her MD at the University of Rochester then an ophthalmology residency at Wayne State University – Detroit Medical Center. She married Robert Greene in May of 1989 and returned to Rochester to raise her family. Susan practiced eye surgery from 1990 to 1999, endearing herself to many grateful patients. After living in Minneapolis from 2008 to 2014, she and Rob settled in New Hampshire in July 2014.

Susan is survived by her husband of 28 years, Robert Greene; her daughter, Claudia Greene; her son, Theodore (Ted) Greene; her sisters Amy (Michael) Hathaway of Fairport, N.Y., and nephews Sam and Aaron; her sister Carol (Mark) Schatz of Lake St. Louis, Mo., nephew Ben, and niece Anne; her close relationship with Rob’s son, Jonathan Stewart, of Philadelphia, Pa.; a large, close extended family; and many, many friends, old and new.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at the Roth Center for Jewish Life, Congregation Kol Ha’Emek: The Upper Valley Jewish Community, 5 Occom Ridge, Hanover, N.H. Interment will follow immediately after at the Upper Valley Jewish Community Cemetery, Pine Tree Cemetery Road and Mascoma St. Extension, Lebanon, N.H.

Calling hours will be at the Greene family home in Etna, immediately following interment, as well as from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23 and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Susan supported many charitable causes. She was especially proud of inspiring and helping found the Tipping Point Grant program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Partners for Community Wellness. Working with other agencies such as Easter Seals of Vermont and New Hampshire, Tipping Point Grants help individuals achieve their dreams and create a stronger community.
