New London, N.H. — Nancy Jane Draper, a long time resident of New London, age 87, died on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Woodlawn Health Center in Newport, N.H. after a long illness.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1930, in Staunton, Va. the only child of E. Lee Draper and Dolly Swisher. She attended high school and received her B.S. in music from

Mary Baldwin College in 1939. She did graduate study in music, particularly the piano, and continued at Eastman School of Music from which she received her Master in Music.

Nancy came to Colby Junior College in 1952 (now Colby-Sawyer College) as instructor in piano, a position she held until her retirement in 1990. In 1963 she took a sabbatical year in Hanover, Germany to study with renown concert pianist, Karl Engel. She received a Solisten Diploma from the Staatliche Hochschule for Music and Theater. Miss Draper adjudicated for many piano concerts in N.H. Nancy was promoted to Professor and for a number of years was Chairman of the Department of Music.

She leaves cousins, Ruth Fraser of Mattaponi, Va. and Ann Wolfe of Clear Brook, Va. as well as numerous other distant cousins; a long time faculty friend and fellow traveler, Rebecca B. Irving of Sunapee, N.H. and members of the Faculty Emeriti of Colby-Sawyer College.

Interment will be in West Part Cemetery, New London in the spring.
