Lebanon, N.H. — Mary Jane (Haggerty) Lemay, 92, died on Monday evening, Dec. 25, 2017 at the Hanover Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health.  She had spent Christmas Day with her family at the home where she was born on Aug. 22, 1925.

  Mary Jane attended school in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1943.  During World War II, she worked in the Carter and Churchill factory as a seamstress.  On his return from service in the Pacific, she married her high school sweetheart, Francis Leo Lemay.  Francis predeceased her in 2011.

  Throughout her life, Mary Jane made her home on the Etna Road where her family had their small farm for generations.  She loved a quiet life filled with family and the simple pleasures of gardening, cooking , canning, and her grandchildren. Mary Jane was predeceased by her parents, Azilda (Gonyea) and Matthew Haggerty; her sister, Helen (Hurlbert); and brothers, William, Matthew, and James.  

She is survived by her son, Donald and fiancée, Katherine, of Wilder, Vt, her daughter, Joanne Whitaker and spouse, Daniel, of Lebanon; grandchildren Michael Lemay and spouse, Mani, of Las Vegas, NV; Matthew Lemay of Las Vegas, NV; Jessica (Whitaker) Devoid and spouse, Jeremy, of Canaan, N.H.; Abigail (Whitaker) Bradshaw and spouse, Robert, of Seabrook, N.H.; great-granddaughter, Maddilyn of Las Vegas, NV;  nephews William Haggerty and spouse, Patricia, of Sturbridge, Mass.; Richard Haggerty and spouse, Cathy, of Burlington, Vt.; and Thomas Belisle and spouse, Karan, of Lebanon; niece, Marie Mogavero and spouse, Stephen, of Hillsboro, N.H.; grandnieces and grandnephews.  Her special friend, Polly  Richardson, of Enfield gave her the gift of companionship and a steady supply of her favorite sweet treats.

 Friends are invited to calling hours at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Wednesday Jan. 3, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday Jan. 4, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lebanon.  Burial will follow at Valley Cemetery.
