Lebanon, N.H. —
Bob grew up in the San Francisco Bay area of California, including Oakland and Sharp Park. He served proudly in the United States Coast Guard toward the end of World War II, in Hawaii, as a radio technician. He was married to Natalie Roberts Nov. 17, 1952, and they made their home in a number of states as they moved around for his work. Bob worked with computers in the early days of the industry. During the late 1950’s he was doing Department of Defense work including working on early rocket projects in Alamogordo, N.M., and during the Vietnam War on mobile computers and later on Trident submarines and surface ship radar systems. Bob and Natalie’s last residence was in Salisbury, Maryland. He has resided at Harvest Hill in Lebanon, for the past two years.
He and his wife loved to travel, taking several cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, the Panama Canal and traveling around the United States. He was a loving husband, and father, a good storyteller and a friend to the many people he worked with and knew over the years.
Mrs. Carter died in 2007. That same year Bob’s son, Michael died and Bob’s sister, Alice Anderson and his brother-in-law, Arthur Andersen.
He is survived by a daughter, Marie Carter; daughters-in-law, Janice Battison and Sharon Carter; and his grandchildren, Erica Carter, Mark Carter, Alex Battison and Scott Battison.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Harvest Hill, Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. in the Garden Room.
