BRADFORD, Vt. — Voters in the Oxbow Unified Union School District will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, to consider a reduced budget for the district’s schools.
The district voted down a proposed $23.3 million budget on April 28 by a count of 145-119.
The new proposal is about $300,000 lower. More importantly, the state has applied revenue to the Education Fund to reduce education property tax rates.
Even with the cuts, Bradford and Newbury residents in the district would see estimated homestead tax increases of $240 per $100,000 of property value in Bradford and $280 per $100,000 in Newbury. Households earning less than $115,000 a year pay homestead education taxes as a percentage of income.
The Oxbow district oversees Bradford and Newbury elementary schools, Oxbow High School and River Bend Career and Technical Center.
Like the April vote, Tuesday’s will take place at an in-person meeting at Oxbow High School. Also on the warning is a proposal to vote on future budgets by Australian ballot.
