Colby Goodrich allegedly forced his way through a window of the building on Friday night and rummaged through the office before leaving on foot toward Lyman Point Park, where he was taken into custody by police, according to an affidavit.
A Listen Center employee told police she believed Goodrich overheard a conversation between her and another employee earlier in the day about leaving a deposit behind in her office while she attended a funeral that evening, the affidavit states.
A $4,000 deposit that the employee hid in a garbage can inside the office was not stolen.
The employee told police she returned to the Listen building around 7:30 on Friday evening to pick up the deposit and when she arrived, she could hear someone in her office. She left the building and had her daughter call 911.
When police arrived, they saw a man emerge from the front doors of the building. A chase ensued but ended when the man, allegedly Goodrich, fell to the ground near the Hartford Town Hall.
He did not have permission to be inside the building at that time, the affidavit states.
Goodrich entered pleas to felony burglary and misdemeanor possessing stolen property, unlawful mischief and resisting arrest. He has a prior felony burglary conviction stemming from an incident in 2009.
Goodrich is being held on $25,000 bail at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, Vt. He has a status conference scheduled for Dec. 19.
