Gillette, a junior, scored twice from 30 yards out during the final 12 minutes — the latter on a soaring one-touch to the top shelf — to give the Royals a 3-1 win over Cabot in Saturday’s regular-season finale.
After breaking a 1-1 tie with a 30-yard strike to the lower corner on a pass from Stella Jones, Gillette airlifted Hannah White’s feed with five minutes to play.
It’s the fourth straight win for South Royalton (6-7-2), which will learn its VPA Division IV playoff seeding and first-round opponent when pairings are released Monday.
“Today we had some good touches on the ball,” said first-year South Royalton coach Jackson Howe. “We’ve been working on attacking the net and getting shots from distance. Emma gave us two really nice goals today from distance when we needed them.”
Hailey Vesper netted the first goal 15 minutes into the game for the Royals, unassisted.
The Huskies tied it five minutes later, but South Royalton was too much to handle late.
Freshman keeper Lilly Hudson made nine stops for South Royalton.
