Concord (ap) — New Hampshire lawmakers are continuing their efforts to require participants in the state’s expanded Medicaid program to meet work requirements in order to keep their benefits.

Republicans added a provision last year requiring participants to work 30 hours per week, but the federal government later rejected it.

Last week, the Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee approved an application for a federal waiver that would allow the provision to be restored.

Republican Gov. Chris Sununu praised the decision, saying work requirements would help the state manage costs, promote employment and lift people out of poverty.
