“The Gift Tree Shop actually began as a humble little gift cart for patients in 1978,” said Barbara Brown, the Gift Tree Shop’s co-manager.
“For 25 years, many volunteers have worked diligently to oversee this cheerful space that provides carefully selected gifts, cards and goods to patients, employees and visitors,” she said.
Together with another APD volunteer, Barbara Sargent, they have managed all aspects of the store, including staffing and ordering, the hospital said in a news release.
Since 1992, the Gift Tree Shop has donated proceeds of $158,000 to the hospital.
“I am incredibly proud of the commitment and dedication of our volunteers who make the Gift Tree Shop possible,” Peggy Cooper, who oversees volunteers and community relations for the hospital, said in the release.
