Logan completed the 13.1-mile course in 1 hour, 36 minutes, 11 seconds to win the women’s age 30-39 category. Teachout was similarly successful in the men’s 70-and-over category, finishing in 2:12:07.
Three other Upper Valley women completed the half marathon: Hanover’s Grace Herron (1:51:17), Grantham’s Jen Bean (2:13:25) and Taftsville’s Sandra Audsley (2:32:35). Thetford’s Lauren Macklin (49:07) and Bradford, Vt.’s Michael Shover (1:04:14) both competed in the Kingdom Run 10K.
Two area runners also won their age groups in the associated Kingdom Run 5K. Norwich’s Ashley Milliken won the women’s 40-46 division in 26:13, and Thetford Center’s Tim Briglin topped the men’s 50-59 category in 23:51. Randolph’s Chantel DeForge (33:39), Norwich’s Peter Milliken (21:14) and Randolph’s Jeffrey DeForge (25:09) also ran the 5K.
CVNLL at Regionals

The Vermont state champs got off to a good start on Aug. 5, dropping New Hampshire champion Goffstown, 6-2. Boone Fahey and Cage Thompson handed the pitching for CVN; Fahey also joined Kason Blood with timely doubles on offense and strong defense. Fahey denied Goffstown a pair of runs with a diving catch of a line drive on the first-base line in the fifth inning, and Landon Kingsbury closed the victory with a lunging snag at shortstop.
Host Barrington handed CVN an 11-1 loss on Aug. 6, and defeats to Madison, Conn., on Aug. 8 (8-4) and Brookline, Mass., on Aug. 9 (10-0) ended CVN’s tournament run. Thompson drove in the Vermont champs’ lone run against Barrington, and Vincent Petrone recorded a pair of doubles in the loss to Madison.
VA Softball Game

Play begins following an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. and will continue until closing ceremonies and the awarding of trophies at 6 p.m. The barbecue starts at 11 a.m., and live music will play throughout the day. The public is encouraged to attend.
Information will be available at the tournament covering such topics as VA benefits, veteran service organizations and how the public can help soldiers as they return home.
Blue Wave Classes Start
Hanover
Classes in the traditional Korean martial art will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children ages 7 and up meet at 5:30 p.m., with adult lessons following at 6:30 p.m. Participants learn such skills as board breaking, trick kicks and Olympic-style sparring under the tutelage of black-belt masters Linda Smith-Blais and Stephen Hopkins. Visitors are welcome to observe any class.

Pickleball Party

The event will be held rain or shine, moving to the New London Middle School gym in case of inclement weather. All ages are welcome to join; a court will be reserved for those learning the pingpong-tennis hybrid game for the first time.

Sprouty Run Set

The race starts at 9 a.m. and costs $20 for the 10K and $15 for the 5K (prices increase after Aug. 24). Commemorative T-shirts go to the first 150 registrants through Sept. 2. A free kids fun run is set for 10:15 a.m. Refreshments and music will be part of the day along with awards for the top three men and women in both races.

The race is a benefit for the HCP in its efforts to help local families in a time of need.
Runners can help by taking part in the race, which starts at 9 a.m. from the Hartland Recreation Center. The 10K costs $30, and the 5K is $20. Advance registration is available through www.underthetreerace.org. Race-day registration will start at 8 a.m.
