Kenvron Gardner is being held without bail after police say he disciplined a child by hitting him with a belt so hard that he left five “distinct” areas of “deep purple bruising” on the juvenile’s thigh.
In addition to a misdemeanor child cruelty charge, Gardner also faces a felony second-degree aggravated domestic assault charge — prior conviction. Gardner has a prior domestic assault conviction that he was on probation for at the time of the alleged incident. He was ordered to abide by several conditions, and he violated at least one, police said.
The child was evaluated at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital after the alleged incident.
The state Department for Children and Families is involved.
