Man Pleads Not Guilty to Assault On Woman on Mechanic Street

Lebanon — A 27-year-old Lebanon man pleaded not guilty on Monday to assault and other charges after police alleged he hit a woman and left her injured on Mechanic Street.

Eric Briggs allegedly dragged the 26-year-old female out of the vehicle he was driving, hit her in the face and left her bleeding in the road before driving off, according to a Lebanon Police Department news release.

The alleged incident caused her to lose consciousness. She was taken to the hospital and treated for a broken nose and facial lacerations, the release said.

With the help of witnesses, police located Briggs driving on Mechanic Street. Briggs resisted arrest and a “brief struggle” ensued, the release states.

Briggs appeared before a judge in Grafton Superior Court in North Haverhill on Monday. He faces second-degree assault and possession of the controlled drug Suboxone, both felonies, as well as driving under the influence, resisting arrest and reckless conduct, all misdemeanors. He is being held at the Grafton County Jail on $20,000 cash.

Co-op Compressor ProblemLeads to Lost Food

Hanover — The Hanover Co-op Food Store was forced to throw out some stock on Monday after a compressor serving some of the grocer’s refrigeration units gave out.

“The crew has been following their standard procedures for such incidents,” Co-op spokesman Allan Reetz said in an email.

As of mid-afternoon Monday, the Co-op hadn’t yet assessed the total amount of product losses at the South Park Street store in Hanover, as employees still were finishing their cleanup work, Reetz said.

Grocery workers disposed of dairy, meat, deli and some packed seafood items, he said.

The Co-op carries insurance in cases of equipment or power failure, and also follows a detailed temperature monitoring protocol during these incidents to determine what to keep and what to throw away.

Girl, 12, Dies in Waterskiing Accident On New Hampshire Lake

Hebron, n.h. — The New Hampshire Marine Patrol said a 12-year-old girl waterskiing in Newfound Lake was struck and killed by a powerboat operated by her father.

The patrol said Zoe Anderson, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., fell while waterskiing on Monday. Her father, Sherwood Anderson, who was operating the towing boat, drove back toward her, but became briefly distracted as his hat was blown off his head.

The patrol said Sherwood Anderson quickly placed the boat, which also had his wife and another daughter aboard, in neutral as it passed over the top of Zoe Anderson at a slow speed. She suffered serious injuries to her torso.

The patrol said Zoe Anderson was immediately brought to shore. CPR was started, but efforts to revive her were not successful.

The patrol is investigating.
