Grafton, N.H. —
Born on Nov. 7, 1942, in Montclair, N.J., he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary (Luwin) Menger. Benjamin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helga Menger; his four daughters, Petra Menger of Springfield, Mass., Karin Menger of Enfield, N.H., Susanne and Terry Underdahl of Glencoe, Minn., Rosemarie and Stephen Seiger of Bedford, N.H.; his son, Benjamin and wife, Phoebe Menger; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.
Ben graduated from Montclair High School and joined the Air Force, his first duty station in Germany. It was there that he met and married his wife, Helga. Honorably discharged after five years, Ben moved his growing family to Springfield, Mass. where he worked in management for Kings Department store while earning his business degree from Springfield Community College. From there his job took him to New Hampshire where he continued to work and live, finally settling in Grafton.
An active member of the American Legion, he enjoyed raising money every year for Jerry Lewis’ kids and the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America. Ben also enjoyed reading, travel, and current events. In his later years, Ben enjoyed watching his family grow and especially his grandchildren. Ben loved discussing history and politics but his favorite meal was his wife’s German rouladen.
ARRANGEMENTS: His Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, N.H. on Friday, May 19 at 2:30 p.m. Friends and relatives invited.
