Hanover — Dartmouth College today is announcing a series of proposals to help the college reduce carbon emissions from its Hanover campus operations.

The Earth Day-timed recommendations from a sustainability task force include calling for Dartmouth to achieve a 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 and an 80 percent reduction by 2050.

Dartmouth President Phil Hanlon says the college will convert from No. 6 fuel oil, which now heats much of its campus, to renewables by 2025. And he said an improved distribution system, such as moving from steam to hot-water heat, will improve energy efficiency by 20 percent.
