Less than three months after announcing a Fenway Park date with Brown this season, Dartmouth revealed on Friday that the 2019 contest with Princeton will take place at Yankee Stadium. The game will be the first for Dartmouth in any sport at the stadium, in what will be the 138th season of football for the Big Green and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the college.
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to play Princeton in Yankee Stadium,” Dartmouth director of athletics and recreation Harry Sheehy said in a news release on Friday. “What a great opportunity for our team, coaches and fans. Playing in Yankee Stadium will provide a lifetime of memories for all involved.”
The Big Green and Tigers own a history dating back to 1897, with Dartmouth owning a 48-44-4 lead through last fall’s contest. The rivals have played in New York before, at the long-gone Polo Grounds in 1908 and 1910. The Big Green won the former, 10-6; the Tigers took the latter, 6-0.
Aside from a fellow Ivy League member Columbia, the only other football games Dartmouth has played in New York City since a 1939 Polo Grounds loss to Stanford game were victories at Fordham in 1995 (34-14) and 1997 (31-10). All told, the Big Green has played 57 games in the city (including against the Lions), posting a record of 38-18-1 overall.
“This is such a terrific opportunity for us to showcase our football team and the college on the New York stage at Yankee Stadium,” Dartmouth head coach Buddy Teevens said in Friday’s announcement. “Our football program and the Yankees have a legacy of tradition and success, and to be able to partner with them to bring Big Green football to New York City will be an event our players and fans will never forget.”
The Big Green and Brown will collide at Fenway Park on Nov. 10.
