The 46-year-old McElveen, who has worked at WMUR for 8 years, will become Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s vice president for communications and marketing on April 3, according to a news release from the hospital system.
He will be succeeding Roddy Young who “will pursue other career options,” according to the release.
“I am greatly honored to be accepted into the Dartmouth-Hitchcock family, and I am humbled by the opportunity to work alongside the talented people who are committed to the ultimate goal of improving lives of the people in the communities we serve,” McElveen said in the release.
A New Hampshire native, McElveen is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Gulf War.
McElveen later went on to work in marketing at several firms before graduating from the San Francisco School of Broadcasting and Mass Communications in 1995, when he began a career in broadcast journalism.
McElveen’s accomplishments include a George F. Peabody Award for Excellence for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina.
At WMUR, his team also received a 2015 Edward R. Murrow Award for reporting on New Hampshire’s addiction crisis.
